Grantor
A grantor is the lender or the issuer of the mortgage or in other words, the seller. Grantor is the official term used on a title when transferring property between two separate entities. The grantor usually gives the property to the grantee, or buyer, in exchange for a specified payment. With most title transfers, the grantee is not buying the home directly from the grantor but is instead using a loan from a bank or mortgage company. This bank or mortgage company is the one that usually pays off the grantor, and then it is the grantee's responsibility to pay back the mortgage company's loan through the use of regular monthly mortgage installments. Most communities have a grantor/grantee index, which lists all of the transfers of the property that occur within a specific city or town.
