Ingleside Antebellum Mansion
Ingleside Antebellum Mansion, circa 1830 is for sale for the first time in generations. This Natchez area Greek revival home with 2 stories and a basement, rests on approximately 48.1 beautiful acres, some of which is pecan orchard, wooded, garden, a one acre pond and several open meadows, all just under 3 miles from the Natchez City limits.* Hundred year old oaks line the drive from the main gate to the front of the home.
The original kitchen and carriage house, on the back of the house, perished in a fire and has been replaced and updated in 1998 from blueprints and in keeping with the style and look of the home. A modern kitchen, utility room, full bathroom with walk-in closet, and garage, all connect to the home. The mansion itself has been modernized with updated electrical, gas and plumbing (modern bathrooms and kitchen) as well as central Air and heat for the ground floor.
The front entrance to the home is a large door with an even larger fan window above, all covered by an enormous portico. The home with its original intended use contains a large central hall and four main galleries on either side of that hall. The grand hall also contains the stairway to the second floor living space of the home. The ground floor galleries would mostly likely have been a men's parlor or office, a woman's parlor, a dining room and a music room. To accommodate the latest resident, two of the large galleries were furnished with bedroom furniture but could easily be returned to their original use by simply removing the furniture. The back covered porch has been enclosed and now provides additional living space as 3 additional galleries; a master bathroom with a Jacuzzi type tub, a sun room and a reading room. From the Reading room you pass through a wet bar/butler's pantry and into the modern kitchen. Here you will also find the utility room for washer and dryer and freezer, as well as the full modern bathroom and walk-in closet as well as a home office space and the stairs to the drive under garage.
The second floor as currently configured, is the landing atop the stairs which serves as the central hall for the second floor galleries, a billiards room and three other unfinished rooms and one partially finished room. The original intent of the rooms was four sleeping chambers with storage space/closets and an educational room that reaches out over the front portico. A roof leak in the early 1900's caused the Venetian plaster to be removed from the ceilings and walls. The original wooden slats on which plaster is placed have been retained. The good news is anyone can restore those rooms as they want, because home is outside the city limits and is not subject to the stringent guidelines of the Historic Natchez Foundation as home within the city must do. The open walls and attic space leaves this area ripe for completion with newer products like spray foam insulation and additional electrical outlets, Coaxial cable, duct work and other necessities for the modern life. After inspection, this home is a perfect candidate for the National Registry of Historic Places. According to the current owners, inclusion in the Registry is a process that takes about a year to apply and become certified.
Ingleside has a world of possibilities, Bed and Breakfast, Wedding venue, working farm and more, particularly with the amount of land available. With all those possibilities in mind, Ingleside could simply be a beautiful and historic home for elegant southern living. Call now to begin your journey to owning this magnificent piece of history and helping to restore and preserve that history.
