Vacant Land (10+ Acres)
Remote & Magnificent: The 14 Mile Point wilderness is located 14 miles east of Ontonagon, Michigan & about 7 miles west of the Misery River boat launch. The 49 acre site +/- (depending on lake level) has 4000 feet of Lake Superior shoreline and contains some of the last old growth forest on the lake east of the Porcupine Mountains. Huge White Pine, Hemlock, Yellow Birch, Hard Maple and other old growth species mixed with conifers and other timber make this site one if the rarest properties still available on Lake Superior. The land is nearly flat with sandstone and some sand beach. The former U.S. Government property contains the remains of the 1894 United States Lighthouse Service 14 Mile Pointe Light Station. The large red brick lighthouse structure and 50 foot attached tower still overlook Lake Superior. The brick fog signal building is used for storage and shelter cabin and has new entrance doors on each side; double hung screened windows with shutters and a 30 foot chimney. Other outbuildings on site are the brick oil house, a privy and the remains of an assistant keepers quarters. The property is bordered by State of Michigan and CFR land. Access to the property is by water or over bush roads and former railroad trails.
