Personal Profile

Born and raised in Texas, Doug S. Haines fell in love with Michigan and its four seasons the first time his Yooper wife, Katie, brought him to visit her family in The Great Lake State. Soon after, the couple began the hunt to find their new home. They looked at land all over the state before discovering Alpena, the perfect mix of small-town life and big city amenities. Prior to joining the Century 21 Northland family, Doug worked as a university professor, writer, musician, and editor. He still plays a few gigs around town and writes in his free time. He co-authored Resurrecting Trash, a book about sustainable living and housing, which was published by Texas Review Press in 2013. His collection of short stories, Things I Pray I Never Forget, was published in 2017 by Unsolicited Press after being named a semi-finalist for the 2014 Elixir Press Fiction Award. Stories from this collection have also appeared in numerous literary journals, including Reed Magazine and The Chicago Tribune's Printers Row. These days, using the same drive and attention to detail, Doug has turned his focus toward providing his clients with the best real estate experience possible on the sunrise side of the state.
