I was born and raised on Chicago's south side. I attended one of Chicago's top high school, Lindblom Technical High School. I attended college at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee Florida were I majored in Data Processing. Upon graduating, I began working in the IT departments for some of the world's largest organizations. After several years, I became a management consultant. During my 20-year tenure as a consultant, I managed the daily operations of a companies Information Technology department, I managed the implementation of an organizations major software, I mentored junior staff and advised and assisted organizations in developing the strategic plans of their Information Technology.
Over the years, I have had a keen interest in real estate. I chose my college major to ensure that upon graduation I could secure with ease a position that would allow me to invest in real estate with the ultimate goal of becoming a developer. I bought my first multi-unit building within 3 years of graduating. Over the years I have purchased several more properties using my original purchases as leverage.
Along the way, I mentored some of my tenants in the area of real estate and found it rewarding that I could help someone build financial independence. I decided to leave the corporate arena after the birth of my last child in 2001. While contemplating my next move a former tenant recommended I go into real estate because I could help others as I helped them.

As a first generation Italian from the DePaul area in Chicago, Barry's strong work ethic began when he was very young. While growing up, his family constantly struggled to make ends meet. Therefore, he began working at the young age of 10. His first jobs consisted of delivering groceries and flowers- which got him through paying his own grammar and high school tuition payments. After high school, he was lucky enough to land a job at a local printing company. He remained a printer for 11 years- when one day he decided to make a serious change in his career path.
Not knowing where his future was headed, in 1972 he was offered a real estate sales position by an owner of Ben Friend Realty. With virtually no experience he became the #1 agent in Northwest Chicago in his second year on the job. During his third year in the industry, he met Robert J. McMullen, owner of McMullen Realtors [established in 1945.] Barry partnered with Robert and ran the small 3-agent office and grew it to 7 agents in a few short years- until Mr. McMullen retired in 1980- at which time Barry remained the sole owner of the company. At this time, Barry along with General Manager John Guest, grew the company into 15 agents and moved to larger quarters. It was in 1983 when Barry bought a CENTURY 21® franchise.
And the rest is history. Over the course of 30 years, Barry built up CENTURY 21 McMullen Real Estate, Inc. to what it is today: the #1 Century 21® Office in the state of Illinois- and in the top 25 Century 21®Offices in the county- with billions of dollars in lifetime sales.
