45415 San Antonio Road Mount Hamilton, Ca 95140
Courtesy Of California Outdoor Properties
MLS# 1359
It is rare to find such a large ranch (1544 +/- acres) close to the Bay Area for sale. The ranch was originally part of a 10,000 acre ranch that was bought by a Swiss dairyman sight unseen in 1897. When Paul Gerber took the stage coach to the property, he decided to get into the beef cattle industry and it has been inthe same family for the last 117 years. The 1544 +/- acre property is located inSanta Clara County just 30 miles from Livermore, CA and 65 miles from San Jose, CA.

The beautiful San Antonio Valley makes up part of the ranch and is known for its gorgeous spring wildflowers. The ranch is part of the PLM program and usually gets trespass rights for one Bull Tule Elk tag and one cow Tule Elk tag. In addition, the owners have done extensive habitat improvement with year round water, quail guzzlers and brush removal.

The contiguous property consists of six parcels. It is zoned agriculture and is in the Williamson Act.

The property sits at the 2100 ft elevation with a high of 2452 ft and is located in the California Diablo Range in Central California. The property is characterized by a lush 40 acre meadow, rolling foothills, rugged canyons, oak woodlands, springs, pond and seasonal streams. Henry Coe State Park is nearby as well as the new San Antonio Valley South Ranch that was protected by the RMEF and the Nature Conservancy. The ranch was bought to provide year round habitat for tule elk and is home to black-tailed deer, valley quail, golden eagles and mountain lions.

The ranch has many seasonal streams that run throughout the property: Jumpoff Creek, San Antonio Creek, Sulphur Springs Creek and Beauregard Creek. In the north end of the ranch there is a large year round pond that is used for fishing and swimming.

The old ranch house is actually two cabins put together. Back in the early 1900 s there was an active magnesite mine in the area. After World War II, the mine was closed and the current owners Grandfather moved two of the mining cabins to his property. The house needs some TLC, but would make a great hunting camp.

This property is a recreational nirvana. It is almost equidistance between San Jose, Livermore and Patterson. You are so close to the Bay Area, but once you come to the ranch it will seem you are a million miles away. The Tule Elk were reintroduced in the late 1970 s into the valley and now number close to 100 elk. This is an unbelievable chance to own land in California with the opportunity to hunt Tule Elk on your own property.

For the hunter, you have a choice of Elk, Black Tail deer, wild pig, quail, turkey, dove and predators. Even for the non-hunter, the property is in a central location in the Mount Hamilton Range and provides picturesque views of valley oak woodlands and native wildflower fields. The property is also the headwaters for creeks leading to Lake Del Valle, a major water provider for the Bay Area. This property is in a truly spectacular setting. People drive for miles to see the beautiful display of spring flowers every year.
