History of Seagate. Sea Gate, a private residential community, which is governmentally a part of Brooklyn, had its historical beginnings in 1892, six years before the unification of the five boroughs into a greater New York City. At that time, the Norton Point Land Company began construction of a private residential community which was named "Sea Gate".
