"With me being an African American female participant in the METCO program for Bedford, I definitely felt diverse. In the beginning, I didn't have the best experience, rather it was academic or social related. I had to adjust to the new environment, prior to going to a day care center in Boston. I didn't really have any friends throughout my whole school career. (I befriended three girls throughout elementary school, claimed them as my best friend, went over their house, then grew apart) Just acquaintances. Always found myself alone, independent. Group work? Couldn't stand it, everyone ran and worked with their best friend. I had no one. I had to force myself in a group. So whenever I was given the chance to work alone, I took it. I found myself doing the best by working alone. I couldn't stand the majority of the Bedford kids, including my graduation class. I didn't like the Boston kids I had to deal with either. I wasn't really bullied till middle school. I was always the kid to stay to myself, did all my work, quiet. Not many kids from Bedford bullied me, even though I do remember some unpleasant experiences with them. It was the kids I went to school with and back on the school bus I didn't have the best relationship with. Then, in my freshmen year of high school, I broke my silence, and stood up to myself. I grew tired of the bullying. Had other bad altercations with the kids from my bus, but was able to manage the situations, telling the METCO coordinators, etc. Other than that, I held myself together, and did what I had to do to succeed, and graduate."

"If you challenge yourself, this school has a lot to offer. The music department is great, as is the english department. Aside from a couple race issues and hate crimes, (which I believe the school dealt with well), I had a good time at Bedford HS."

"I've had my fair experiences with the teachers at this school. I didn't always have good relationships with them though. One history teacher from sophomore year gave me a hard time, and I really felt like I worked my butt off for her. There was even a time where I felt like she made fun of my writing. I thought her class was so hard, I thought I had to level down (I was in level 4). In my senior year, I had this awful algebra teacher who couldn't teach nothing. I didn't understand him verbally or his teaching style, he's an older Indian man. Felt like he barely had patience for us, so if he barely did, why hasn't he retired yet? I had to seek out help during his class and other classes to make sure I passed and graduated. It was very frustrating because even though I felt I was doing everything I needed to, I felt like he was misplacing my work. I even had a teacher who taught Peer leadership in the same year, and she tried to do the same thing to me in the beginning of the year till the end of the year. In peer leadership, we barely did any work throughout the whole school year. She'd even let me and the other kids have their phones out. She took the class way too seriously than she needed to. The best teachers I ever had was back when I had a learning disability and that was from elementary school to my freshmen year of high school. (Several learning center teachers in elementary, Ms. Lang, something like that, can't remember all their names. Ms. G, she had a long name, so she let students call her that, but she retired after my freshmen year. Very supportive and sweet lady. Ms. Gibbons, now Ms. Frazier, always had my back, always supported me throughout middle school.) They were very supportive of me and made sure my grades were good and I got all my work done. The METCO program there was very good and supportive of my academics too. I'm just grateful I went to school here than a school somewhere in Boston. I did get the best education I could have deserved."

"Bedford's teachers are really a crapshoot. Some are amazing, some are awful. Most really do care about teaching and helping kids, but some of them simply aren't good at being with and teaching kids."
