"My school is predominately Hispanic. Most of the teachers however do not speak Spanish. The teachers are not to blame for the fact that many students are not proficient in the English language. But the teachers are, in fact, to blame for the way advanced students are held back academically. I have sympathy for students who have recently arrived to the United States and do not understand the language, because I was once one of them. Nevertheless, it is unfair that those students, the ones who do not understand or speak English very well, are placed into classes like honors English. Since students who speak little English are at a disadvantage, teachers are often EXTREMELY lenient when grading them, SOMETIMES EVEN CREATING THEIR PRESENTATIONS AND SPEAKING FOR THEM IN FRONT OF THE CLASS!!! I believe that behavior like this is completely unfair. If a student is not capable of performing at the same standards as other students, he should be placed in a class suitable to his level of knowledge. The worst part is that teachers feel so bad for students at a disadvantage that they waste time ineffectively trying to explain simple concepts. Doing so impedes me from learning what I should be learning. In addition, those students do less than half the amount of work I do, but sometimes get the same or higher grades because the teachers in my school sometimes grade based on what they "expect of you". In my eyes, this means that my GPA is being hurt because I do not struggle as much as other kids to retain simple material. The teachers in my school also do not seem to be very qualified. Although they may have ample knowledge on the material, the classwork they give and their teaching techniques are mediocre at best. The teachers are all around not very good, and I would not recommend students with the potential to go far to attend it."

"Although I can barely tolerate the teachers and principals of my school, there are some people that I have enjoyed meeting during my high school career. For instance, I have amazing friends and have met counselors that get much less credit than they deserve. It is because my counselors are so helpful that I have been admitted into several prestigious universities. In addition, my school has provided me with many opportunities. For instance, my school provides free SAT prep courses and books. These classes were definitely to thank for my success in the SATs. What I do not enjoy about my school is that it focuses too much on minor issues, as opposed to the educational aspect. For instance, failing to wear uniform (in the public school I attend) will result in a student receiving detention. Sometimes, there are teachers assigned to walk to each classroom and check if students are in uniform. If a student is wearing a hooded sweater, it will be taken away and they might not have a sweater to wear during during the cold Massachusetts weather. What really annoys me, however, is the fact that there are certain students who can get away with not abiding by the dress code because most teachers have obvious preferences."

"I wish I was informed of what my best options were and didn't have to find out as an upper classman."

"There are a few that really try to explain how the real world is and have discussions with students over their own individual ideas, but there are other teachers that just don't think it's important."

"I took 6 AP courses while in High School and the rest i was in high honors. I can honestly say I loved every single one of my teachers and the dedication they gave to make sure their students understood everything. The teachers were willing to stay after school hours if needed and come up with different examples to make the lesson more understandable. They were great."
