"The education you will receive at this school is second to none. The teachers are well-hired, intelligent, and friendly. The campus is state-of-the-art, beautiful and in a great location, close to Newport. The traditions are all exciting and unforgettable. However, if you are not an inordinately wealthy white student from Locust Valley, NY, Greenwich, CT, or some similar background of country clubbing and sailing, you will likely not feel comfortable there. The students are friendly, but frustratingly ignorant about how the rest of the country lives. The school is very cliquey, and it can get very depressing if you are not adopted into a group when you first arrive on campus. I encountered a girl who did not know how to wash a dish; the entitlement and spoiled attitudes can get exhausting for students attending on scholarship."

"Most teachers at the school will do anything and everything they can to help their students succeed. There are a few teachers who are very opinionated (liberal) and this sometimes affects their grading. However, 95% of the teachers are wonderful and unequivocally devoted to their teaching."

"The teachers are completely committed to their students and their teaching. They form deep relationships with most of their students, and offer themselves up in a multitude of ways. Many teachers are educated to very high levels and have broad and deep knowledge. In addition, they are more than just a teacher in students' lives: they are often also coaches, dorm parents, advisers, etc."

"The teachers at SG are the incredibly influential, supportive, bright, inspiring, and dedicated. The fact that almost all of the teachers live on campus proves their dedication to the community... and the teachers are not only teachers. They are your coaches, advisors, dorm parents, etc. For instance, my biology teacher freshman year was unbelievably committed to and excited by science. Her own personal curiosity never stops! She continues to improve and learn, herself, spending her summers working with the environment at a camp in Maine. Often, she takes her classes down the hill to the beach and has her classes truly engage with her lessons. She is also the varsity softball coach, junior varsity swim coach, and a dorm parent in the freshmen girl dorm. This teacher, like many other dorm parents/teacher, always becomes like a mom to the girls in the dorm and her teams. Students know that she is someone we can go to if we need help, advice, or a hug because we are stressed, homesick, overwhelmed, etc. Instead of practice, she may surprise her teams by taking them out for ice cream, etc. Even though the academic are of course very challenging, the teachers are all extremely understanding; in many cases, their children or the teacher himself/herself has gone to SG or a similar school. Therefore, they will push you to try your hardest, but also be there to help you. All the teachers are genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and are there for the students in every possible way."

"-Involved, positive, friendly, kind, accepting, fun, down to earth community. -Beneficial, life changing, challenging, once in a life time opportunities (I mean, I spent a trimester at sea in the Bahamas, learning how to sail our 70ft sailboat on my own, cleaning the boat, cooking, learning about marine biology, tagging sea turtles, exploring and doing service in the local areas, etc.). -As far as student life goes... there is always something fun going on. On the weekends there is always some sort of activity: movie on the quad, laser tag, 3v3 basketball tournament, etc. Throughout the year, there are tons of traditions: Christmas Festival, Paint Dance, Spring Dance Weekend, Formal, Prom, Friday Night Lights, Beach BBQ, Polar Plunge, Full Campus Easter Egg Hunt, going to class in costume for Halloween, Paranoia Week, Middlesex Weekend Pep Rally, etc. Personally, my overall experience has been life changing. I have been challenged, but I have grown an incredible amount in just three years. When I have struggled, I've had an entire, loving community to help me."
