"I knew I wanted to attend this school for the 3 years before I applied and was accepted. I was drawn to the small class size, the credentials of the faculty and the strong curriculum. The sky is the limit for students. IF they envision it, they can do it. I would choose this school again. It is family."

"Luckily being the #3 best high school in the country (thanks Newsweek) almost makes up for any crappy things about the Academy. It is an extremely high work load and the classes are challenging. In addition certain teachers are incompetent but have been there long enough to slip under the radar. Some of the teachers are extremely well educated but poor at explaining information to previously unexposed students. I have been encountered both the experience of being a struggling student in certain subjects as well as a top performer watching others struggle without teacher assistance. In some classes you are just out of luck if you don't inherently make the connections or adapt perfectly to the prof's teaching style because they will not adjust to varying student strengths and learning styles. If you struggle to follow in Math Analysis 1 and 2 (required classes) you are basically screwed because the teacher will be of no assistance. Hire a tutor. That is the best advice I have found for any of the classes. No need to be embarrassed as you will soon overtake others in understanding and performance. On the plus side, the Academy has a tight knit social group and you will become fast friends with almost all of your peers. The interviews weed out most people with poor character, so most students are hard working, witty and eager to become friends. Luckily not all of the teachers are poop (most of them are quite good) and as an Academy student you will get to take some unique and challenging classes such as biotechnology, computer aided drafting and fundamental of engineering. To sum up, you will constantly be working and sleep deprived, will learn more in 4 years than you thought possible and will come out with a group of extremely close friends (who will end up being excellent connections in the future). The college and ivy placement rate is through the roof"

"The small class and directed curriculum is great and makes the students feel like they're being carefully selected; however, this does bloat egos and makes for unrealistic expectations for what they can or cannot do. Also, though the student aren't officially ranked, there is still a valedictorian at the end of the 4 years, and ranking lists are not kept confidential by the guidance office. Overall, the classes are fantastic though--the technical experience really starts making an impact in the junior year and senior year. The very best parts of the Academy was the senior-year internship experience where students could get real work experience, and biotechnology class where students were able to use lab techniques not normally available to high school students (and every quarter had a day where the students cooked breakfast-on-demand for the teachers)."

"Most parents of Academy kids are tough, supportive, encouraging, and loving"
