"The academics in the school, while very intense, are really helpful."

"The teachers are very kind and hard working. More than 3/4s of them I'd say got an incredible education and went off to do amazing things with their careers before settling down as a teacher. No matter what the subject was, they all pulled in real life examples and applied hem to what we were learning. They managed to challenge us by forcing us to explore the gray areas in places that can be easily mistaken to be black and white. The work is absolutely manageable. I personally did not do well in high school because of my personal lack of motivation because of my personal problems. It wasn't even because I couldn't handle it, because I know I definitely could. The scheduling was annoying. All the classes I wanted to take were classes that I had to get a certain average in the previous class to get into. Which annoyed me because sometimes the reason why I didn't do so well in a previous class was due to my disinterest in it, and I absolutely knew if they gave me a chance to take the classes I wanted to take I would have done better. The teachers do, however, give many extracurricular opportunities for those who ask for it."

"The science department, especially Biology needs a lot of work in terms of improvement and teaching"

"There's so much diversity and it's great because I get to be surrounded by other cultures and get a lot of experience and extra cultural education that I know most other teenagers don't get to have. There is a lot of clubs to take part in so there's kind of a place for everyone regardless of interest, intelligence, culture, religion, and sexual orientation."

"There doesn't seem to ever be any "obvious" cliques in this school. The status quo was determined by the measure of success in each individual. Personally speaking, when I look at others who may be traveling the world, helping out at Haiti, playing instruments at Carnegie Hall, going to debate competitions in Yale, being personally recognized by the president, participating in politics, touring the world with prodigy skills, etc etc. it makes me feel useless in comparison. It made a lot of people feel unworthy and useless in comparison. And because everyone at school seemed to flaunt over those who overachieve, everyone felt the need (even if it was subconsciously) to overachieve, because honestly, it does feel good to be adored and looked up to with awe and admiration. And therefore this became the peer pressure. It was how everyone saw that everyone's admiration was always directed most to those who achieve, and this admiration was the peer pressure that made everyone feel like they needed to do well. This also goes hand in hand with acceptance. The more successful we are, the more able we are to be accepted. Because our school was dominated mostly by asians, that entailed a primal understanding of traditionalism. Although we were all given an american education which allowed us to be more openminded and accepting, it didn't stop certain people from judging. I feel like half of the school were genuinely understanding and openminded, while the other half were simply openminded in terms of understanding academics and not by practice in daily life."
