"The environment at Calverton is so miserable and hostile. Teachers are unhappy, students are unhappy. No one wants to do their work. The IB program is clunky, disorganized, and tedious, and a waste of time and money. Social life is uncomfortable and strained; if you don't fit the mold of a "perfect student" or if you look different, have different interests, or are of a differing gender/sexual identity, you are seen as a monster. I know very few students who felt comfortable truly being themselves while enrolled at Calverton. There are incredible facilities at Calverton, but most of them are hardly used. This includes a large extensive prop-making shop which is used as an off-limits storage closet and a beautiful green room/sewing shop which is so full of trash and grime you literally have to wade through it to move about the room. The arts at Calverton are neglected in favor of sports and academics; theatre is ridiculously under-budgeted and visual arts is run by a teacher who believes art is strictly technical and paint-by-numbers, and does not give room for creativity or expression. The school boasts that it gives lots of freedom to students, but every "safe place" for students has been taken away by administration and turned into offices. The atrium, which was the sole place of respite and comfort for students was turned into a glass-walled office for the head of the school, despite the fact that he already had a large, comfortable, office in another building. Not only was the comfort place of the students taken away, it was replaced by a sign they were not trusted; the glass walls allowed the head to watch over students, giving them no privacy. Students at Calverton are miserable. They are taught to bow their head and do work with complacency, and never challenge those who hurt them. They are cowed down and discouraged from expression and freedom. I am very lucky to have left, and my peers have all expressed they wished to do the same."

"I left Calverton because of the poor quality of teachers. The school is run under the thumb of the 11th/12th grade English teacher because he has stayed at the school longer than the administration has (the administration is so bad that they change out about every two years) and he is extremely cruel. The addition of the IB program caused extremely uncomfortable, confused, disorganized, and unhappy students. It was not uncommon for my classmates to break into uncontrollable sobs in the middle of class because they felt so discouraged. Whenever I visited my friends after I left Calverton, they would look at me with pained, wistful, eyes and whisper "you are so lucky you got out of here." Teachers very rarely help a student. If you don't understand the material, they believe that's your problem, and that they are never at fault. In the 11th and 12th grade English classes the entire grade level would fail assignments, and the teacher would fully believe that it was the students' fault, and not a shortcoming of teaching skill. If more than half a class is lost, confused, discouraged, and struggling, it is more than likely the fault of the teacher's lack of skill. The hostile environment caused for strain among students, and peers were seen as competition and enemies, instead of peers and team members."

"The teachers at The Calverton School all have many different teaching styles. No teacher is alike, which makes for a very unique learning environment and experience. Most teachers know that the homework load can be overwhelming, especially as an upperclassman, so they will work with your schedule and give a bit less homework if you just communicate to them that what you are currently receiving is too much to handle. Communication is a major key at this school!"

"The education I receive at this school is amazing, but socially, this school is not the best fit for me. Many of the students at the school have been friends since elementary school, so it is difficult for them to branch out and befriend new students."

"I would've rather gone to a school so I could play baseball, however, the academic aspect of this school has been rewarding as I was able to have access to over a thousand different colleges to apply to and successfully get in."
