"My son has been here since sixth grade (now in 8th). He's had teachers that truly care about their students learning and futures and in addition to being good educators his teachers have also been positive role models. Mr Hussein (7th grade) is a star educator and I hope he's still at Hilsman when my other children go there. My son still goes out of his way to try and see him and could go to him with a problem or question even though he's moved on to eighth grade."

"I went to this school back in 2005-2008. Some of the teachers were good teachers, however many of them werent so great. The biggest issue in this school for me was the level of bullying. From being beat up in the locker room under no supervision, or being buillied physically, mentally, and threatened. There were even times when I got made fun of by fellow teachers in front of the class because of my appearance. What kind of educational environment allows this type of negativity? To be honest, this did not support my self-esteem, and led to other problems later on. I was also dragged to the office for dancing like Michael Jackson(appropriately)after school was over....really?.. Don't send your child here, send them to a better school. All due respect to staff, but shape up a bit. Maybe it's improved since? I don't know, but keep this in mind."

"I went to hilsman for 7th and 8th grade! I have to say the only thing I really enjoyed was choirs. At the most one or two teachers would be interested in the kids and their future ,but the rest were just there for the money! Bullying is kinda big there and teacher nor principal does nothing about it , so it maybe a stressful learning environment! It has great extra activities, but other then that your better off looking some more!"

"I went to hilsman for 6th and 7th grade. The teachers have no clue what's going on most of the time. There's too many open book tests. Even really smart people get like a 75% on benchmarks! The teachers do not teach us what we need to know! There is allot of bullying going ob and the teachers don't notice! The councilor is very nice and understanong. The principal and assistant principal cannot be taken seriously. The choir, band, and orchestra are exelent. But allot of the 7th grade teachers either give you a 100 for the day for writing your name and others make sure that you get too much work. But some teachers like Mr.Oleva, Mrs.Mirada, Mrs.Zeimann, teach us just right and you can tell it's not just for the pay check."

"I have 2 kids in Hilsman and was hesitant to have them go to Hilsman because of what I read here. My kids are thriving there, and have made good friends. Their teachers are interested in them as young adults, treat them with respect and challenge them academically. There are lots of extra curriculars, a fantastic band program and a zero tolerance bullying policy, which is actually enforced, too. Perspective Hilsman parents should take the stuff they read online with a grain of salt--Hilsman has been a great environment for my boys."
