"While attending Washington high all my teachers pushed me to always do better because they knew what I was capable of doing and with that extra push made my time there enjoyable, the great thing is they didn't just push me to do better they pushed every one of their student's."

"Since I am a student with Asperger's/PDD NOS, I find even if the teachers say they understand my IEP or my disability they really do not. I find that the newer teachers are lacking in communication skills, teaching ability and allow students to run havoc in the classroom and have told the new teachers you have to get control of the class not the students. There is too much politics going on and a lot of the teachers spend too much time on Facebook or other things on the internet or talking on messenger which really upsets a lot of the students and the older teachers. Also, politics plays too much a role in all of our classes and if you don't have the name or the money then you are SOL. It makes it harder for a lot of students to learn what they need to when the teachers (the ones who have parents of students as friends and they bring in personal into the classroom and it effects every student's grades whose parent does not party or graduated with the teacher or know the teacher personally."

"If you are not part of the right family, part of the right money or have enough money or dress like most of them then you are not part of anyone or anything here at the school. It is very difficult if your parents didn't graduate with the teachers or coaches. If you think or dress or are different then the "norm" then you are SOL. My mother was a force to contend with and she is old fashioned and she was and has been my greatest supporter, so I was one of the lucky ones to be able to thrive but if it were not for her then who knows what would have happened to me. With all the drugs it gets nasty and with all the sex that goes on it is seriously worse."

"When I first began at this high school I was bullied and even though I was an athlete I was shunned because of my disability and believe me having the team gang up on me all because someone didn't like me and had that much influence should never happen to another student. For the most part, I worked hard, my ethics were above and beyond everyone on the team and the coaches also will attest to that but because I did not start out with these athletes and what they did in their spare time and I was autistic, they made fun of me and bullied but my mother said you stick with it and rise above them. That I did and I became the strongest, the fastest and the hardest worker on the teams I was involved with but that still made me an outcast but my sites were on college and what I could learn there and playing my sports. Bullying and the politics have got to get out of our classrooms and our sports because we lost every year because our coaches were more interested in partying then being real coaches just like a lot of the teachers. This is something I want to change and become a mentor in the future for children like me and who have the same disabilities and show them that they can rise above all this nonsense and stick with your dreams even though many teachers and coaches won't and will not do that for them."

"Core is what is taught at our school so we are mostly taking state testing and everything is built around that and the teachers and students dislike it. We are even told by professors of other colleges that we need to get away from Core because as far as being ready for college we are not. Many things in the curriculum have to be changed because it is based on Core teaching. If students and teachers are not able to do what the students need for readiness for college then what is the point of all this test taking and why are we trying to go to college when the professors are already saying we are not well prepared for college as it is going? With all the bullying, drugs and the Core teaching then please tell me what will be done because I know when my brothers come up and no one still listens because of their disabilities they will be worse off then I was trying to get into college."
