"I really like high school. I have great friends and one of them I even plan on going to college with and being roommates with her. I've been a part of plays and sports and I have loved every minute of those competitions. But as I have gotten older, I've noticed just how fake some people really are. I just stay close to my little group of friends but I try to stay friendly with everyone."

"Some teachers care and go above, but most do not. They have the mentality that if we fail it is our fault and they none of the teachers grade things the same way."

"The teachers at Belmond really vary. I had some extremely wonderful teachers that were more than willing to go above and beyond (most were from the English, math, and music departments), but I also had some horrible teachers who couldn't even remember what grade I was in (mostly from the science department). As I became an upperclassmen a lot of the teachers began to leave and we instead got a bunch of new, young teachers. Obviously, being young teachers, they weren't as knowledgeable as the older teachers had been, but their interest in the students was better and they could relate to us easier. Overall I would say the grading was pretty fair in all of my classes."

"While there was a lot of bad things I could complain about Belmond, I enjoyed my high school experience here. I loved being able to be involved in everything and the community was really great."

"After I graduated high school, I planned on attending Iowa State University, which I currently am doing. Unfortunately, my high school did not prepare me very well for the college life and I immediately became very stressed out. After a semester, I somewhat have things under control now, but right away I felt very overwhelmed. In high school I never had to study, I'd just walk into a test and ace it. I graduated in the top 10% of my class without hardly trying. Boy I was in for a shock when I came to college! I spent days studying and still only got B's when I was used to getting A's my whole life. It took me awhile to figure out my study habits, but eventually I did and ended up making the Dean's list here. In conclusion, I did not feel very prepared for "the real world"."
