"It's great academically with classes avalible for all different levels of students and teachers are able to help students individually, but there is so much pressure and competitiviness towards grades between students."

"Unlike the other so-called "college preparatory schools" in Minnesota and nation-wide, St.Paul Academy and Summit School has a warm and welcoming vibe. At SPA, there are very few cliques, no bullies, and everyone there wants you to reach your full potential. SPA is unique in that the student body is diverse not only in backgrounds but also in cultural and world views, experiences, and interests. This makes for a culture that is centered around exploration and curiosity and is built from hard work. Though the pressure to succeed and heavy work load can sometimes be challenging on top of the extracurricular activities that we are encouraged to do, the experience has proven extremely rewarding due to the opportunities that we are presented with and the doors that we can open in the future. The connections we make with other students and with teachers are strong as SPA puts an emphasis on peer support and one-on-one relationships with teachers: one thing SPA graduates have in common is their willingness to ask questions. The opportunities to expand your horizons at SPA are vast as many clubs, organizations, teams, and groups are active parts of the community. Some (of many) student-run clubs include Students for Social Justice, People for Animal Welfare and Safety, Intercultural Club, Art Club, Spartan Beats (A Capella club), and Community Action and Service. These clubs and many more groups and teams allow students to step into leadership roles, be active members in the community, and to explore their interests. I have found throughout my time at SPA that, more than anything else, the school aims to provide a safe learning environment to benefit all students and help each and every individual reach their full potential by the time they graduate. Whether through required Senior Speeches or participation on our nationally ranked Debate Team or Newspaper, each student comes out of SPA not just smarter, but also a better person."
