"Many of the teachers and staff are understanding and generally care about the students and their learning, in most aspect. There are some exceptions, mainly in class scheduling, for one thing, they use a test containing an English section filled with topics most middle schoolers are no longer taught to decide the placement of Freshmen. On top of this, the are very rigid in the requirements for admittance into classes, often refusing to make exceptions when students exceed most but are slightly behind in others. Many students wrongly placed in classes too easy for them, do end up being moved up their Sophmore year, but after being bored in class for a whole year. There is something else that leads to boredom, scheduling AP classes only one hour a day, forcing more than qualified students to chose either music or to sit in a class that is either too easy or not quite fit for them. Needless to say, these things grow to annoy students come their Junior or Senior year."

"Naturally, the teachers, counselors, coaches, and staff have seen several students who barely try in school and this breaks the staff's hearts. So, when they see a kid who is giving it all there all, they will jump right in and give their all to make sure that kid shines the brightest. Sadly, however, if you are all set on what you adding in your future, Marengo High School won't be able to assist you much, but will most definitely free praise as you go along your path. As for the students who don't care, the school is trying to give them a bigger push through disciplinary action, but this tends to only cause further outrage amongst all students, including those who care. My advice to my high school is to simply take some more thought into their policies and to consider all the students in their decisions."

"I like how most teachers are very student oriented. I have seen a good change in my years here but one thing that I have observed that I do not accept is the racism presented by the principal and others of the school. I am a minority and I have seen countless times where I am punished more severely for something my peers also do occasionally such as being slightly late. I have received immediate repercussions for such actions whereas classmates I know are consistently late aren't punished whatsoever. I, however, am late once or twice to school and I get a phone call home, a meeting with the Latino staff, not my counselor, and I get a detention. You're better off going to a different school because while MCHS boast an "Above Average ACT score" it is only for it's district and county. I recommend going to Huntley or Mchenry, even Belvidere. These schools are nearby and will treat you with respect."

"Marengo High School provides students with an excellent education foundation. The faculty work hard to ensure students are prepared for college and life outside of high school. Marengo High School offers a safe learning environment in a small close knit community, with a varied curriculum to meet all student needs and interests while maintaining state standards for educational requirements. Extracurricular activities are available for all students eligible for participation. A few changes I would like to see at Marengo High School include increased funding and student interest towards the fine arts programs, improved diversity in foreign language programs, and greater availability of community service."

"Marengo High School is an exceptional school that focuses on academic excellence for all its students. The school has been one of the first to initiate the Digital Learning Experience program, giving each freshman a netbook for educational use. The small size of the school forms a closer community of students and teachers, allowing greater access to the resources the school offers."
