"I believe that I learned how to be open minded through Central with the help of the teachers. They were always full of different perspectives of learning that made me realize how important loving everyone no matter the race or religion really is."

"It can be nice, but often isn't. 40% of the kids here get free and reduced lunch. You see the poorest of the poor on a daily basis. Some get pregnant (this is such a problem we have a nursery, that way both parents can still stay in school). So many different hair colors; it really looks like everyday is crazy hair day. Sometimes bad things happen. There are around 3,000 kids here, so it only makes sense, kinda like how big cities tend to have higher crime rates. Freshman smell bad. Freshman funk is real. They always schedule state required drills on the last days before a break (ex: spring, thnxgiving, X-mas, Summer). The teachers with tolerable/decent personalities make it worth it."

"Like every school, Central is what you make of it. It's the oldest school in Springfield, and it's a beautiful school that's rich with traditions. We have the oldest drum and bugle corps in the country, the Kilties, and a lot of our school was built in the early 1900s. There is a wide variety of clubs to get involved in, from Ghost Club to Guitar Club to Botanical Society, and this is a place where everyone can find a way to pursue their interests. We also have the International Baccalaureate Program, which a lot of students come for from all throughout Springfield, and we have state and nationally recognized broadcast journalism and speech and debate programs. Central will definitely give you a great education, and since people here are so friendly, even the shyest of people will be able to make friends. That being said, there is definitely a focus on college readiness here, and there will be a lot of people who are shooting for Ivy League schools. Sometimes, people can be kind of competitive here, but it also depends on the classes that you take. Things are definitely manageable here, but just know that if you go through the hardest route, full IB, it may be a little more intense and competitive than what you're used to."
