"Most teachers go above and beyond. The lower school is fabulous. There are a few, however, in the middle and high school who have been moved around a lot and really don't have knowledge of the subject matter that they teach. A few in the high school are very bright, but outdated. Especially in math and science, the rigor is not matched by the relative stagnation of the program. Students are not getting enough APs or higher level math to be truly competitive for top schools."

"Graduates go on to excel in college and almost always claim that they felt far better prepared than their peers in college because of their high school education."

"I came to college from being very successful at Independent. During my first semester, I noticed all other freshmen did not have the same time managment skills, science background, or math background that I was given and Independent. It has made all of the introductory classes I have to take a breeze!"

"The small class sizes and the fact that most of the teachers have been teaching at the school for more than five years turns the student/teacher relationship into more of a friendship than the obligation to show up to class every day. Most teachers have taught siblings of students and develop relationships with the families of those students which creates a unique dynamic within the school."
