"The academics that are offered are generally excellent. Spanish is offered beyond basic levels (students can take all the way up to AP Spanish Literature and AP Spanish Language) and the people that take these classes generally do very well on the AP exams. In addition to strong Spanish teachers and a Spanish department, the Science department is very strong. AP Biology, AP Physics, AP Anatomy, AP Chemistry, and many more classes are offered as options and the teachers are very strong. Finally, the Math department is also very strong, with Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus offered, and most students doing very well on the AP exam."

"There are two groups of teachers. One group of teachers is very invested in the success of students while the other is not so much. The Science, Math, and Spanish departments are particularly strong - particularly recently, and teachers in these department actively encourage their students to go beyond and above (go to the best universities). AP Spanish Literature, AP Spanish, Calculus, Anatomy, and AP Physics and Biology are some example of excellent courses that are offered. These honors classes tend to be very well taught and prepare students for any university. Some of these teachers stay in touch beyond graduation. This aspect of the education was excellent and prepared me for college. The school also has a very strong athletic department and excellent administration (Vice-Principals, Principal, and Superintendent). However, there are a few aspects that stop me from giving this school an excellent score. 1) There are a few teachers that do not truly understand all of the paths that are available to students and sometimes end up discouraging high achieving students. 2) There are very strong prejudices against Hispanic and gay students (often on the line of sexism and racism) and there is a fairly strong segregation between Hispanics and whites - with a few teachers sometimes having unconscious bias against Hispanic students. Some students also actively discriminate against Hispanic and gays. 4) There is a very strong presence of the church - which in an of itself is not a bad thing - but students who are not religious are often bullied and religion is sometimes brought to events where it is not particularly appropriate (and where not all churches are invited to attend). If these issues were addressed however, the school would have remarkably high marks and would consistently be sending students to the top universities in the country. In short, great school with areas of improvement and very high potential."

"This is one of the serious challenges of Stephenville High School. Teachers are mostly white, and do not accurately represent the proportion of Hispanics in the school. This presents a problem because teachers sometimes treat Hispanic students differently - although often times they are not aware that they are doing this. Equally serious is the lack of interaction between Hispanic and white students. White students do not hang out with Hispanic students and Hispanic students do not hang out with white students. White students are generally in the honors classes while the Hispanic classes are put on the "regular" classes. Racism against Hispanic students is also very serious. I witnessed one student tell a Hispanic student "I own you because I am American". While Hispanic students are able to get an excellent education, Stephenville High School places significant roadblocks to making this a reality."

"Some teachers are great, others not so much. However, overall, teachers are interested in your success. The Spanish and Natural Science departments are particularly strong - specially in the honors classes."
