"Sometimes the teachers understand what your having trouble with & can correct the mistakes that are happening. Yet there still times when they explain things the wrong way & get everyone confused & lost."

"For the past three, going on four, years in attending South Houston High School I have always been enrolled in Pre-AP and AP classes. Every single teacher I have had has always been available for tutoring no matter the day and time of availability, all you had to do was let them know in advance. Teachers at SHHS are very well aware of the students and try their very best to engage students every time by making lessons with real world examples, and sponsoring clubs and organizations."

"If I could do it all over again, I would still choose South Houston High School. The bond I have with this school and the people is the best. The environment brakes the stereotype. Just because South Houston is seen as a "bad" area does not mean the student body and the school as a whole is a bad place. People from other areas constantly judge South Houston High School, and in fact it infuriates me. I hate when people talk down on us for stuff that the school and the student body takes no part in. South Houston High School is filled with great teachers and AP's who engage with the students and care about them and their well being. In addition, the way the students care for one another truly amazes me. Unfortunately, May 2016 a freshmen Karen Perez was murdered by her boyfriend in the next door apartment complexes. According to the news she was skipping with him. This took a toll on the student body. The school and current students are partnered with Community For Education, a group of former South Houston High School Alumni. The goal is to get together as a community to stop this from happening again. We have done walks and signed petitions to get the building demolished in order to keep the students safe. Unfortunately, it has been three months since the tragic event and the City of South Houston does not want to demolish them. They have even talked about the school buying the property and re creating an education building. This not only impacted the students lives, but it has taken a toll for major security renovations at South Houston High School. It is now my senior year and we are being monitored with ID's to make sure we stay in the building at all times, and also building a fence around the school to prevent skipping and intruders. On a bad note it saddens me that something bad had to take place in order for change to happen, but I would not change my school for anything in the world."

"For the most part the classes were easy didn't have a lot of problems & if I did most teachers understood the way I learned & could correct problems I had. Most of my fun really came from sports & hanging out with the friends I made in each sport I played"

"I honestly cherished my time at South Houston High School. It was a good school that had a lot of opportunities readily available. You just had to take the initiative to search for those opportunities. The school has a variety of clubs and organizations that students could get involved in. The teachers were thoughtful and had engaging lesson plans. They did everything in their power to ensure we were successful in college."
