"The teachers really care about the students, and the social aspect is wonderful. There were no bullies, or social pressure to act or dress a certain way."

"This school has saved my son's educational future. It is such a caring place, with teachers and staff that care about each child. This school is Nationally Recognized for it's unique model of education. It really puts kids in the driver's seat when it comes to academic success. It is super diverse, and accepting of everyone, including kids that are not traditional learners, or one's that have had problems at other schools fitting in. There is no judgement of others allowed, period. There has only been one fight in the history of the school. Zero tolerance for violence. 100% tolerance for individuality. There are a lot of gifted kids who have wrestled with traditional education. Supportive of every race, sexual preference, individual differences. The arts program is incredible. The chess team won State last year."

"I'm now at a very competitive private liberal arts college in Iowa, with a 3.8 Gpa, and if it weren't for Garza, I don't even know if I would have finished high school at all. Garza saved me, and saved my future. It's not for everyone, but anyone who is responsible and self-motivated will get A TON from the school in a way that no other school could ever. For the many, many students like me who were really intelligent but just hated the standard large public school environment, and how impersonal life and education was when you had 700 people in your grade, Garza is a godsend. I was an A student at St. Stephen's Episcopal School until having to leave sophomore year because of money issues and go to Westlake. So I know exactly what the "best" schools are like in Austin. But for those of us who want our teachers to actually know our names and care, and our school to do everything it can to help us, there is NO school better than Garza. It doesn't work for everyone, but for the people that it does work for, it's adored."

"Because all the classes at Garza are self-paced, how much effort or time each student wants to put in determines the student's outcomes. I was very motivated and love learning, and found all of my teachers to be incredibly helpful and flexible. Every teacher constantly asks each student if they need help with something, and are super excited to sit and go through each step of something one-on-one until the student understands. There were many students who were not motivated, and didn't really care about learning the material, so didn't accept help offered. Those students (who are also the reason why the drop-out statistics are so bad, nothing else) are NO reflection on the teachers who were very happy to help but could not force someone to accept assistance. My English teacher at Garza was way way better than the any of the pHD'd teachers I'd had at St. Stephen's and Westlake, was incredibly helpful and really flexible about how to do projects. She was happy to work with anyone to design a custom project on a book even if it wasn't part of the usual curriculum. That's the beauty of the school! All of the teachers are amazing, my math teacher Mr. Kapasi was the only teacher I've ever had in the subject who sat down and taught me to ENJOY it! Everyone I had in my 2 years was incredibly knowledgeable, infinitely patient, flexible, fun and wonderful."
