"We wouldn't choose this school again. It's been a major disappointment."

"We decided to enroll our daughter here because of its academics promise, global education, safe environment, diversity and extracurricular activities. Unfortunately it took us a couple of years to realize those promises arent consistent or true at all. There are several schools in the area (Crossroads, Wildwood, New Roads, Windward) that do a much better job in comparison. Vistamar's teachers are very nice and some of them would meet outside teaching hours but not as knowledgeable or academically prepared as you'd expect from a pricey private school. Their Math program is horrible and incompatible with most college and high school Math programs. Humanities, languages and Sciences is about being lucky enough to take a class wth a teacher that knows their subject well. The humanities program seems a mess of subjects that dont fit in conveniently with other programs. Our daughter took three years of Espanol and cant even have a simple conversation and she's told chinese is even worse. And don't get me started with the Science AP scores so low compared to other private schools. As far as diversity goes the student body is less and less diverse. There is not a single black teacher and very few Hispanic teachrs. There have been some serious issues with drugs and harassment in the past years too that the school does a very good job hiding from the community. Unfortunately changing schools is not easy for our daughter because of her friends and our commute. We hope you don't make our same mistakes, however if you're looking for a social playground with easy academics standards, friendly teachers and (too) flexible administrators, this is the place for you!"

"The teachers are all very friendly and helpful. They all have different teaching styles but most are very engaging and knowledgable about the subject"

"I love the friendly nature of this school. For the most part, everyone is very accepting of one another and willing to lend a hand."

"Socially, I have had a great experience at this school. My group of friends is very diverse, not only in ethnicity; but in their personalities and interests as well. I feel as though this unique community has enabled me to meet and befriend people who are really different from me, and learn how to find ways to connect with people that you might not seem similar with at first. Each of my friends are extremely different from one another, meaning that I get the opportunity to learn from varying groups of people and find something different I admire about each of these friendships. This school has always done a great job of making me feel safe and comfortable. There is no absolutely no bullying and no violence. However, I do think that this school could improve academically. For teenagers like myself who struggle with ADD and different ways of learning, this school does not do a sufficient job of accommodating this needs and making sure we receive the best education we can. For classes like Math which always have a very straightforward answer and process, this school tries to embody a "progressive" method of teaching by having students try to find the answer on their own before they are actually taught the correct process. Because this method of teaching confuses me and makes me more prone to forgetting the actual correct problem solving process, I've found that I've struggled with math at this school. As an auditory learner, I learn by talking through a problem, asking questions, and basically having an engaging conversation. However, if I miss school due to being sick my teacher will just give me a packet and have me review it on my own. Because my mind does not absorb information this way, I will ask my teacher to meet privately outside of class to go over the material together. But most of the time, by teacher will refuse to meet with me until I've read the packet and struggled to make up the work in class."
