"Most of the the teachers are very compassionate, knowledgable, and genuinely want to help their students. Others come off as more strict/apathetic but some students prefer that style."

"I would choose this school again if I could do it all over because St. Mary's has an incredibly welcoming community that has a place for everyone. I have felt more accepted here than anywhere else."

"For all of it's various activities, St. mary's is definitely most widely known for its academics. Even "regular" classes are still pretty difficult, but most people are able to adjust to the workload expected and find them manageable. Basically all SMA students are extremely passionate and driven, leading many to prefer the more challenging honors/AP classes and take on multiple (and often time-consuming) extracurriculars. This is partially due to the fact that, especially as upperclassmen, students are constantly encouraged to think about their college applications and decisions. This kind of pressure, combined with a relatively small community of extremely competitive students, does lead to a pretty prominent stress culture at school-- something that likely motivates as many students as it wears down. However, many teachers and some administrative faculty are attempting to open up dialogues with students on these issues. While it's easy to get caught up in the St. Mary's "bubble" of disproportionate fears about the future, the relationships made are some of the strongest I've seen or experienced. So while remaining relatively isolated in this environment will eventually lead to stress and dissatisfaction, taking advantage of SMA's unique community will allow you to access some incredible mutual empowerment (and eventual self-confidence) that's unlikely to develop so organically anywhere else. Regardless of how students feel about SMA's academics or administration, nearly everyone leaves incredibly invested in its people."
