"I am glad that I had the opportunity to become part of the SOTA family. The teachers are amazing, and you can tell that they care about their career and their students. Each student is put into a Mentor Project Group (or MPG) with a small group of students led by one or two teachers. These teachers will become especially attached to you and assist you throughout your educational career. SOTA has an excellent curriculum that is not only informative but exciting. Far different than any other experience I have had in a classroom. The school is set up in multiple buildings across Downtown Tacoma, so there is a bit of a walk between classes is relatively safe, but I recommend walking in a group. The most frustrating thing about SOTA is the administration because news about future events and such is usually mixed up by different sources or are hard to find in general. Usually, things are put together or learned about at the last minute which can be quite frustrating."

"Students typically have 8 periods total, with the first 4 on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the last 4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays, we spend with our Mentor Project Groups, or MPGs. New students are randomly placed in these groups and stay with them until they either leave the school or request a new placement. We discuss grades, can receive tutoring from our "MPG siblings", or just sit around and relax. This grading process guarantees that, as long as a student turns in every single assignment on time, then that student will fail none of their classes. Once a month, we have a student showcase, where the school rents a performance space and auditioned performers can show their talent to the rest of the school. My complaints are not on the school itself, but the students. We sometimes take our school privileges for granted, and many students will skip school on Fridays. We are given this opportunity while other schools in our district still attend normal classes."

"Over the course of my four years at SOTA I have grown so much as a person and I have my school to thank, I've been granted incredible opportunities that I would not have had otherwise, I've met incredible people, and I have the most amazing mentors who have supported me unconditionally. There are many things I love about SOTA, from the open campus around downtown Tacoma to the variety of classes I can take. Although I have had wonderful experiences, not all of them have been as great. There is a huge issue with organization and communication within the school that desperately needs to be solved, and even though I have met some of the best teachers I have ever had here, I have also met some of the worst, but that's a given with any school. Overall SOTA is an amazing experience and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to attend."

"Tacoma School of the Arts challenges its students to have a higher level of responsibility. With an open campus integrated into the downtown environment, Tacoma School of the Arts teaches its students to become greater members of the community and to hone in on their own artistic abilities through collaboration and performance. The school has a high level of diversity, with students from all neighborhoods and districts within the city. It also provides courses in almost every art form. From songwriting to dance to film, Tacoma Schools of the Arts allows its students to find what they are passionate about and then turn it into something meaningful and self expressive. Relations between staff and students is very comfortable, allowing students to build bonds with their teachers, which leads to greater success through guidance."
