"In recent years the school has gotten a LOT more racially diverse. The demographic in 2016 matched the demographic of Tacoma. It's less white than it used to be. There is a lot of support for LGBT+ students although the GSA stopped running 2 years ago."

"The general quality of teachers is very high. Most teachers have been teaching for several years and most of the arts teachers have prior arts experience besides teaching. There are also a number of adjunct artists who enrich classes. All teachers use the same BAME scale for grading so it is very consistent between classes. Each teacher spends time with their mentor group on Fridays bonding with students and all teachers are very approachable and easy to reach through their SWIFT sites."

"Classes are hard for upperclassmen! With adjunct artists we have a lot of cool electives available like Digital Composition and Jazz Composition. Scheduling is horrible and all scheduling and schedule changes are done online."

"SOTA is a truly unique school. The teachers are all wonderful and my academic classes are rigorous. The arts classes I take focus on real world application as well as theory, and I love the audio recording program. One thing really special about this school is the mentor project groups, or MPGs. Each Friday a teacher meets with a small group of students from all classes. These students meet with each other almost every week for their four years of high school. MPG was an incredible experience for me and just a good way to make friends atthe start of freshman year who you'll always get to see each week. I love the support from my peers academically and emotionally. We can really talk to each other about our problems and get help on school work from a teacher, someone taking the same class, or an experienced upperclassman. MPG really improved my high school experience and I would not go to any other school."

"Honestly I can't say much about the parents at this school because they aren't actively involved. While my parents are great, I know of plenty of students whose parents are just awful."
