"I open-enrolled into Firestone's IB program because the school district that I attended K-8th grade was an awful experience. It was the stereotype of a suburban school with the jocks and mean girls. I grew up with all the same kids and had very few friends because very few people there shared my interests (fashion, art, music, etc). I'm very glad that I decided to attend Firestone instead. While the school has major flaws in its teachers and administrators, the student body and overall atmosphere is very positive. They have a huge problem with organization and communication to students and parents about changes they make to their policies and schedules, standardized testing, etc and it becomes very frustrating. I do like the principal a lot. He is in his second year at Firestone and I believe that he genuinely cares about students. The three assistant principals, in my opinion, are the opposite and do not adequately handle students' individual questions/complaints/requests. As I said of the students, the population at Firestone is very diverse. There are so many different types of people at the school- from the super smart to the artsy to the hoodlums- and everyone is very tolerant and accepting. For this reason, I would choose Firestone time and time again."

"Firestone High School certainly is a very unique school compared to most cookie cutter schools in Ohio. While the diversity and general acceptance of the student body is VERY good at this school(I'd say diversity completely helps in the real world) it is lackluster in a variety of other important areas. First off, the administration is garbage. They constantly hire new "assistant" principals who just serve to act as a "role" model for a large portion of the school. They don't actually help with much other than sending kids into in school suspension for roaming the halls(The policy is a joke). Teachers do try to help students, but when a very high percentage of the kids actually at the school don't care about learning it's hard to do. I commend some of the teachers(Honors+ classes) who actually try and do succeed in teaching required material. There are only a few AP classes with is kind of a joke, but there are options for enrolling part time in the University of Akron for free college courses. Anyways, the school just is not a school I would suggest anyone going too. Sure, some of the programs are decent, but the school is completely underfunded and there is absolutely NO school spirit. I feel like I wasted 4 years at this school where I could have attended other nearby public schools for a much better education. Think wisely before enrolling here."

"I have enjoyed my time at Firestone High School for a variety of reasons. The school is very unique, as it has many opportunities for the students to be engaged in many programs. I took part in the International Baccalaureate Program at Firestone High School, which is the only full diploma program in the Akron Public Schools system. I have been able to participate in the highest level of education offered to me at Firestone, while still being able to participate in many other activities, like sports and various organizations, including clubs. I would choose this school again because it truly allowed me to grow as an independent individual with more respect for those of different cultures; Firestone is a diverse school, and I do not believe I would be the person I am today without this expose to such diversity."
