"If you are smart you will not allow your children to attend altus junior high. They are a viscious bunch of people. Your child is in harms way by attending this school, not only from the students who don't think twice about hitting your child, but also from the staff who work there, from the principle on down to the people who work behind the desk in the front office. They stick their noses in your childs personal business as to what they do off school property and on the weekend, it is none of the schools business what your child does off of school property. The disipline is not fair and consistanat. If you don't have the right last name your child will be targeted by the school and they won't stop until they have your child expelled. Don't even get me started on the sorry excuse of a board of education."

"I go to Altus Junior High. I am a straight A 8th grade student, cheerleader, in yearbook, and apart of the student council. I love AJH, It's the best school I've been to. A lot of parents on here say the education is all that great, well I disagree. Oklahoma is a Title 1 state so what's the problem? It's lower than most states so the work is extra easy. The teachers are excellent, too. One word: Easy. There are many clubs, too. But, one thing I agree with is the discipline is weird! Say you get into a fight or steal something and then someone else is caught talking in class. More than likely the person caught talking will get just as much, or more punishment. One more thing, I agree we shouldn't have our phones out during class, but what's with not being able have untill 3:30?! Overall: Great!"

"As a parent that has put two children through this school, I see a lack of quality leadership from the principal down. There is an inconsistency in discipline. The leaders aren't even aware of their own rules and enforce what they think should be the rules, much to the frustration and rebellion of the kids. Children need to feel like they are in a good environment for learning, and it is sadly not that way at this school. Too many overbearing, oppressing rules make the kids feel like they are in prison, in stead of at school. Modification is necessary, then a decrease in fights may be the result, as well as happier kids."

"Scholastics at this schools seems to be very good. However, the school does not provide the sense of safety. As has been stated previously, there are too many fights. My child cannot learn in an environment where they fell threatened. School sports rules are harder on the student than a student who fights. If I am late in picking up my child (more than 10 mins) my child is punished. If this happens three times, my child is removed from the program. What happens if a child starts a fight? Especially those children who start fights routinely."
