"My child is a part of the special education program at DGE. In my experience I don't feel the teachers in the integrated classes are patient enough or educated in the special ed field. Working with mentally challenged students takes consistency and patients on a daily basis. My son is bullied daily and the principal and assistant principal do nothing about it. Ever since the new principal has taken over everything has taken a turn for the worse. Last he came in and took away the 5th graders end of year trip. (we are talking about kids who have been in the school since 1st gd and going to middle school) This year he is trying to separate the kids east and west to supposedly save money. I want to know where our money is going. He is the worst ever, he isn't for the KIDS!"

"I think this is a typical elementary school. There is always going to be something that somebody wants changed about their school. DG is very well run, the teachers are excellent and well qualified and recess is most certainly NOT run by PTA volunteers but hired help (they may be parents). The only problem is the state tests but the teachers have no control over that."

"My son was bullied and administration did nothing for years. One day I picked him up from school and found him with a black-eye and swollen nose. He was beaten at lunch and sent to the nurse, no one called me, he was sent to back to class to sit next to the kid that beat him for the remainder of the day. This school district spends too much time and money teaching the huge population of illegal immigrants how to speak english. The TAG program is nothing- an hour a week in a 'lab' doing busy work. I had my advanced son independently tested, and found that my 'A+' student (according to Deauville) was almost two years behind most of the 5th grade students in New York. Students spend hours learning how to pass state exams, not learning the material! No security on playground, only PTA volunteers. I can go on for pages...Stay away!"

"PTA engagement is basically only for fundraising. The staff welcomes though if you are concerned about your child and ask for conference or consultation. The music department seems to run good. Art is weak. I don't like when they show movies at specials classes if teachers are out. The guidance counselor is great however must have work overload. The social worker is excellent and efficient. Strict discipline measures are enforced, but what about help for kids who get teased and bullied? School seems to be very concerned about state tests result.Too much drill for those tests. so far the academic standards were too low for my opinion."
