"As LASA is as magnet program, it attracts a certain kind of student and thus a kind of teacher: those that like to teach and can do it well. While a few teachers over the years haven't been as good of a fit for the students (those teachers did not last long), in general, the teachers run very open, self-run, and high quality classroom which is perfect for a school of self motivated students who enjoy the freedom this classroom offers. While grading consistency varies across the board on subjective activities, in general, the teachers are fairly regular and always willing to discuss grading with students. LASA teachers are suited for LASA students, people who understand the rigors inherent in a magnet school and who actively enjoy communicating and engaging with the open and friendly teachers."

"It's the usual here. Some teachers are hated and some teachers are loved. They are semi-approachable, it just depends on the teacher."

"The teachers are (with a few dramatic exceptions) very good, and seem to genuinely care about their students. However, as the administration increasingly plummets in quality, many of the teachers who feel like stalwarts at LASA are beginning to leave."

"The majority of the teachers are strong in their fields. Initially I was quite impressed by the number of "non teacher" teachers that were there to offer an enriched and real world value to standard curriculum. For example, a former Dow chemical engineer teaching Chem, a epidemiologist teaching Bio, etc. However domain knowledge does not always translate well to teaching. In the end the best educational experiences received by my student were with teaching professionals with long time experience in the classroom rather than outside it."

"LASA is the top school in my town. I believe that wholeheartedly. it is, by definition, the best. It is not the lesser of two evils, but is the cream of the crop and caters to students who enjoy learning and active academic participation. The memory that first comes to mind for me when discussing LASA is that of one of the required engineering design classes that everyone takes, and the teacher who teaches this class. Mr. Pace has been at LASA for a figurative century, and is retiring at the end of this year. What is most amazing about him, and what so exemplifies the mindset of LASA, is that he took a class of young freshmen, some of whom had never even touched power tools and over the course of semester taught them how to design and shape wood and metal into whatever they desired."
