"This school is suppose to have a special education class where we have to send our kids in this district. I found the school was not ready for these kids. I went to the class one day to find the teacher had written a note on the board saying she went to lunch late, please do their work. This was suppose to be a enclosed class room where all the children are extream special needs. There was another parent there who was kinda standing guard, and who as shocked as I was. The teacher was overwhelmed and the class room was out of control. My child's social worker was shocked when she made a surprise visit and was upset that she got very little help from the staff ,when she tried to help them. She had no other choice but to notify parents on the conditions she witnessed. We do not have other options but to drive our kids into Austin, which is now what I have to do. The environment was not only unsafe, but I found my 5th grade who I was told was doing well and the best in his class, is reading at a 3rd grade level. I was appealed.. We need better classes for the Special needs kids, these kids want , need and are legally entitled to an education."

"BIS has the most dedicated teachers I have ever met. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that all children rise to their potential. The children in the school are genuinely happy to be there and as a visitor, you can easily see this when walking through the halls."

"The teachers are great. The student body is diverse. What is concerning is the fact that alomost 1/2 of the school is economically disadvataged. That pretty much well sums it up. The community of Bastrop is growing and the demographics are changing for the better. The schools have what it takes to become exemplary."
