"My son started attending MCDS for middle school after attending public school in Mill Valley. I struggled with public vs. private but now, in our second year at MCDS, I honestly feel that it is one of the best decisions I've ever made. If you've taken a school tour, you know the setting is beautiful and the amount of resources are ridiculous. But what impresses me is the caring and commitment of the teachers, a clear teaching philosophy, and a constant willingness to self-examine and adjust the curriculum. The teachers really know (and like) your child; the staff is talented and encouraged to be creative and innovative in its approach and focused on how kids solve problems, not just "the right answer" . I did worry about the lack of economic diversity (or more to the point--feeling like I am the economic diversity). But the parent community is very welcoming and I've never felt out of place or uncomfortable. And the kids--I mean every kid I've met--is composed, mature and smart. There are cliques (this is middle school after all), but the administration is quite attentive and responsive to any unusual situations."

"My two children have attended MCDS since kindergarten. It's an amazing school, and I recommend it without reservation. The school works hard to create a strong community that includes students, parents, teachers and staff. The curriculum is excellent. And the teachers are top-notch. The school welcomes and celebrates diversity."

"On first glance, MCDS is like a small liberal arts college except the students are much younger. The beautiful, sprawling campus provides an idyllic setting for student learning, which is founded on a healthy mix of progressive and traditional approaches. The facilities themselves are truly world class, but it's the community of faculty, staff, students and parents that put MCDS on the map as a premier independent K-8 school. It is a place of possibility, an all-you-can-eat buffet for teaching and learning where you have to be careful not to put TOO MUCH good stuff on your plate. The place is teeming with inspiration, joy, challenges and people who truly care about students' educational well being. Faculty members meet children and parents where they are on their path. They foster growth in a positive, supportive manner, and genuinely love their craft. Current initiatives include Creativity & Innovation, STEAM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Arts/Math), Mindfulness education, Education for Sustainability, and diversity/inclusion community initiatives. In many ways, MCDS is truly the holy grail of independent schools. Those who get to join the community are tremendously fortunate."

"MCDS is a warm, supportive, and joyous community. Students are encouraged to explore their social-emotional self in addition to their academic identity and have many opportunities to integrate play and experimentation with their learning. The campus is a gorgeous outdoor space which allows for studying the bay and wildlife, playing in the creek, gardening, hiking, tending to chickens, playing sports, and meditating."

"Thoughtful instruction, great teaching and support staff, rigorous research-grounded academic approach, increasingly diverse students, and a 'whole child' approach in a gorgeous country setting."
