"I am a substitute teacher and I am so happy to have finally found a school I can rate five stars. All the staff are welcoming, supportive and appreciative . The kids are positive and quirky and wonderful. The curriculum is lush, creative and rigorous without being a drag to the students. The campus is gorgeous. The best part once again is that they treat their subs like assets rather than snubbing their noses at us like we are lowlifes or something, which happens a lot in other schools. These are smart people helping to create smart people and the school makes so much sense."

"Whoever wrote the one-star review dated May 15 was writing about a different school. The writer stated that her son went to MCDS instead of Galileo High and, because of his experience, she sent her two daughters to Lowell High instead of MCDS. Galileo and Lowell are public HIGH schools in SF. Marin Country Day is a private K-8 in Marin. There is no possibility that her kids went to or could have gone to MCDS for high school. I wish Great Schools would vet obviously errant posts (also, "School Leader" is Lucinda Lee Katz, not Kathy Jones). For what it's worth, MCDS is like Hogwarts--joyful and magical. My son (and his dad) love it."

"I sent one kid here and 2 to Lowell and Lowell is far better. Now I wish I'd worked harder to get my oldest son into Lowell. They don't welcome diversity, it's almost all white and parents are openly racist. There are a few Asians, not much else, the few others are not representative of blacks or Latinos and are scared to act out as the consequences would include expulsion and ostracism. Lowell is much more rigorous and kids do better. I regret it now, I don't like the segregation and feel guilty as private schools cause an evasion of Brown v. Topeka, cause less integration, but my son had such ADD problems I was at the time nervous he'd fall apart at Galileo, which was the school he got into, but my friend's daughter went there and got into UC Davis. I wasn't impressed. My son is half black and he didn't date till college, then did a lot, at SF State, there is a treatment of his being separate. My 2 girls at Lowell dated every race in high school. Marin Day is mostly about white people keeping their kids from associating with minorities, not education. The education is less rigorous than Lowell and no better than most schools. I'll always regret this choice."

"My son started attending MCDS for middle school after attending public school in Mill Valley. I struggled with public vs. private but now, in our second year at MCDS, I honestly feel that it is one of the best decisions I've ever made. If you've taken a school tour, you know the setting is beautiful and the amount of resources are ridiculous. But what impresses me is the caring and commitment of the teachers, a clear teaching philosophy, and a constant willingness to self-examine and adjust the curriculum. The teachers really know (and like) your child; the staff is talented and encouraged to be creative and innovative in its approach and focused on how kids solve problems, not just "the right answer" . I did worry about the lack of economic diversity (or more to the point--feeling like I am the economic diversity). But the parent community is very welcoming and I've never felt out of place or uncomfortable. And the kids--I mean every kid I've met--is composed, mature and smart. There are cliques (this is middle school after all), but the administration is quite attentive and responsive to any unusual situations."

"My two children have attended MCDS since kindergarten. It's an amazing school, and I recommend it without reservation. The school works hard to create a strong community that includes students, parents, teachers and staff. The curriculum is excellent. And the teachers are top-notch. The school welcomes and celebrates diversity."
