"I spent 13 years as a parent at Mattison Ave. Elementary and couldn't have been happier. My children have also attended two other elementary schools in the district and I feel that Mattison is the best by far. The small size of the school makes it comfortable and everyone knows your child by name. Most kids walk to school and it is a VERY SAFE neighborhood where kids frequently can be seen playing outside. As to the academics, they are at least equal to that of any other elementary school in Wissahickon. There is a "gifted" class at the school and many opportunities for enrichment. The teachers and staff are caring, supportive and innovative. The smaller environment means that students here are less likely to "fall between the cracks." Mattison kids are regularly on the honor roll at the middle and high school levels and represent the district as Valedictorian/Salutarians at graduation. They have maintained friendships from kindergarten and are proud to be Mattison grads. Yes, property values are lower in Ambler, but the residents and school here are top rate!"

"Wow, some of these other reviews here sound snobby. My children attend Mattison Avenue and I haven't found one bad thing to say about the school. The staff is excellent and please tell me how many schools do you know where the principal knows every child's name (not just the ones in trouble). The school is not in a bad part of town really in Ambler please. Go to a school in some parts of Philly then tell me it's a bad part of town. My kids are well educated and continue to be as they progress through this school. The parents participate and are there looking over all the kids. Ambler is a small community where we look out for each others kids. If you feel differently you don't have to send your kids here, but they would be missing out and that's ashame."

"Wissahickon School District is an amazing school district but I believe this is the low point of it. More in the "bad" part of town, or at least I believed that when I had to go here for 2 years. I had good teachers and decent friends but overall it isn't a very nice school especially if you're coming from Blue Bell, Shady Grove, and Lower Gwynedd school experiences, all from the same district. Those were all great schools..."

"Hi, I have been a Mattison Ave Mom for 8 yrs now, and I truly do love the school, the Leadership in the school, and the parent participation. I feel the children are getting a good education.I feel my girls are challenged by all of the teachers they have had so far..and the out come is AWESOME. Just because they don't offer foreign languages does not mean the children are not learning new languages. The school is so diverse with children from all different ethnic back rounds, and my daughters have learned some Spanish and Korean, and Italian, and Chinese from there friends. Just because it's not in the everyday curriculum, does not mean they are not learning new languages. At the end of the day, Mattison Ave. is a Great School to send your Kids."

"This is a nice quiet little neighbourhood school. But don't think your kid is going to get a great education. It's okay but it's not great. They don't do other languages and they don't challenge your child according to their abilities. Therefore your child will get bored and start to hate school. They also have some very weird/inappropriate rules such as not being able to take off sweaters/sweatshirts in class."
