"My child was in private school from pre-k through 6th. I had enough of the bullying, clicks and general fees and decided to go with UIM. I could not be happier. The teachers are so wonderful, challenge the scholars and really work to make them be their best. The job of learning is the scholars and the parents to foster that environment. The teachers respond on engrade promptly even late at night or on the weekends. They are invested in the school and the kids. A refreshening change. Lots of extra curricular far more than private. talent shows, plays, honor society, cinco de mayo walkathon to name a few. PTA is the same where ever you go- very clicky, you can't be a working mom and be involved. The teachers go the extra mile to encourage the kids to do well, tons of extra credit available if students need it."

"Extracurriculars are non-existant, children are cramped, uniforms not enforced. SHSAT results were administered, only 2 children were accepted! All kids are going to run-of-the-mill schools, Lehman, Pelham Prep, etc. The school has a constant college theme. If "scholars" weren't stressed out about college, they could of gotten in a decent school! The kids don't know each other either, many cliques, no U.I.M. unity. The kids are bad influences, teachers DON'T care, they get busy work. My son was at his friend's, she was doing math homework. She's in another Bronx school. He looked at her work and was lost. The sad thing is, her school offers no honors courses. They are in one classroom all day. She has scholarships to private schools, and offers for Specialized Schools. This is standard for her school. Maybe two in that school are going to public schools. I went to events at her school. There is a family feel. Everyone knows each other well. Students enjoy themselves, as do the teachers. I doubt tears will be shed at U.I.M. graduation. The Urban Institute of Mathematics has disappointed. They left us with empty promises. Yes, the grades are decent, but have you seen the work?"

"I took my son out of this school in November. That was by far the best decision I've ever made! He is a happy kid again, and he's grown so much academically and socially. That is good enough for me. U.I.M. is mediocre on a good day. The school thinks it is fancy because of a name. That means nothing. The children run around like animals during gym. They stay in their slacks, change into sneakers, and kick a ball around. The girls prance around in far too tight slacks. The boys have never seen a belt. Teachers don't teach. Pull your child out of this school while you have the chance. Things are only going to get worse."

"I am a proud parent of a 7th grader. When my son got accepted, I was very hesitant to send him because of the bad publicity about safety issues that I.S 192 always received. My son really wanted to attend the school, so my husband and I decided to give it a shot! I couldn't have made a better decision! This school is fantastic! The principal, Ms.Jennifer Joynt and the assistant principal , Mr. Joseph Martin along with the rest of the faculty, do a phenomenal job! The school offers more to the scholars than any of the private schools in our neighborhood. My son is learning so much and enjoys going to school. As far as my concerns for his safety, there are none. I know that when I drop my son off in the morning, he is safe. The Urban Institute of Mathematics and Science gets an A+ in my book!"
