    "Out of the New York City public schools, this one certainly takes first place. The teachers are (for the most part) extremely dedicated and inspiring, the student body is very diverse in terms of both interest and ethnicity, and the classes available (once you have fulfilled your course requirements) are all super interesting."

    "Even though I constantly struggle in homework and trying to balance it all, Beacon teaches me time management skills and that I have to work to thrive. I've found that I am a multitalented human being by getting involved in 3 of Beacon's amazing arts departments: Dance, Music and Theatre. I've found that I can handle a lot of work, but sometimes it's too much. I don't love the constant assignments and stress put on the students, but I believe it will prepare me better for college and for life."

    "Teachers at this school are extremely passionate. There have been many instances where I've been fascinated by subjects that I originally found boring after experiencing a class with one of Beacon's teachers. Every teacher has a different teaching style, but that is what makes each of their classes unique. Beacon teachers are very knowledgable, and a student it guaranteed to walk out of class with more insight on something they either previously knew or learned in class that day. Beacon teachers make the classroom a comfortable environment where students are unafraid to share their differing opinions, ask questions, and discuss complicated topics across the board. Teachers always have tutoring hours where students can ask questions about confusing material or to get essay/test help. All Beacon teachers have high expectations for their students, so students are motivated to work hard to get a well-deserved good grade. Some teachers can be unfair in their grading, but this could be a bias as each teacher within each field has different expectations/a criteria students must meet that is typically outlined in a syllabus at the beginning of the year. Teachers do not set students up to fail, so if students are suffering, it most likely means they are not doing their work, studying hard enough and/or are not communicating with their teachers during tutoring hours."

    "The academics at Beacon are great. Many of the teachers love what they teach and are enthusiastic during class time. I have loved a lot of the teachers I have had in the past, despite how difficult some of their classes may have been, since they are always very devoted to their subjects and are extremely knowledgable. The curriculum for each department is very challenging and each class has a PBA (project based assessment) instead of the regents either during both midterms and finals week or during one of those time slots depending on the subject. Classes like math, science, and spanish usually have tests both midterms week and finals week, while english and history classes typically require a large paper + project during either during midterm week OR finals week depending on the department teacher. Although PBAs sound like a piece of cake compared to the regents, they are definitely more challenging. However, PBAs have helped me prepare for college as I am not freaked out by a 5 to 10-page-paper or long exam. Scheduling: there is more flexibility with courses sophomore/junior/senior year as you can apply for APs as a sophomore/junior for the following year as either a junior or senior, and seniors can choose their courses for science, history, english, Spanish, and electives for both 1st and 2nd semester. Freshman do still have some scheduling freedom as they can make course selections for electives after rotating their electives throughout freshman year. Class changes are possible and usually are not difficult to make depending on your scheduling conflicts. Workload: there is a lot of work at Beacon and sometimes the workload can be hard to manage depending on how many extracurriculars a student is committed to + what teachers/classes they have. Every teacher assigns a different amount of work either per night or per week so workload fluctucates. Regardless, students should expect around 4 hours of hw a night (30-60 min of hw per class)."

    "I have never in my life experienced a more diverse and accepting community, and that's saying something coming from New York. This school is open to everyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, religious creed or political leaning. Art and sports are equally smiled upon, and everyone can have a say in matters they find important. All that is expected of you is a responsible (if daring) attitude, and the will to drive forwards in the world."
