"Our child is doing great at Newbury Elementary School in the second grade. The class size is very small and that's fantastic from an academic standpoint, but it does mean that she's going to be with the same group of kids for a very long time. That adds its own complexities. The teachers try to manage their social interaction to some extent but you don't have a lot of options when the kids are going to need to coexist through high school. The teacher really seems to care about our child and understands how they think. I wish it were easier to get more parents involved in the community building side of the school. Community involvement is one of the things that really make a small school experience worth having, in my opinion."

"My kids have been in Newbury schools since last year. They have begged me night after night, please don't make me go. It breaks my heart. The teachers are not absolutely terrible but there is such a difference between Eastlake schools and Newbury. I feel like we have fallen back in time. The school looks so old, there aren't enough kids in the school for a new kid to even have a chance at making friends. Everyone is so worried about sports. My son has come home crying multiple times because kids don't like him cause he doesn't play sports. We do things like 4wheelers and go carts, we go camping and fishing and do TONS of stuff, but because he doesn't play football he is not cool enough. Every time I walk through the doors of that school I instantly feel smaller, not accepted, sometimes even stared at. Their security is an old lady sitting in an all glass room with a button to unlock the door. My elementary school kids are in the same school as the high school just a different level. With all the recent events that doesn't even seem slightly safe with the lack of security :("

"I removed my kids from Newbury schools this year. The school board is completely out of touch with the community! The administration is horrible. The teachers try ...but are frustrated, which make them ineffective teachers. The school population of k-12 has fallen to approx. 550 students. Parents of k-6 graders were sent letters stating the school has again not met AYP and were offered busing to enroll their child in another school district. The facility is rapidly falling apart. Last fall, the school water well went empty. A tanker which continually pumps water into the well is still there. Three weeks ago an electrical fire started in the 5th grade classroom. The state of Ohio needs to take over this district."

"Financial trouble - difficulty passing additional levies even though one of lowest tax rates in area. Upper management could be improved, but most teachers are excellent! Extracurriculars have been cut and are poorly funded/attended."
