"School is on probation with CPS and needs to improve it's scores. The principal does not seem to care about the community. The playgorund is littered with garbage, gang graffiti is constantly covering the building and the playground equipment. I have to call the city and have it removed. I contacted her about kids throwing bottles and large rocks at our houses and she never even responded to the issue. There does not seem to be the strong guidance and leadership that these kids need."

"Whittier is a gem in the Pilsen Community, championing the dual language of Spanish, the home language of most of the students, and English. Research shows that a strong academic foundation in the home language leads to higher functioning in the second language; this takes about 6 years, and Whittier has the qualified staff and program to make this happen. Surrounded by gardens, Whittier gives parents and students the support they need for true academic bilingualism."

"Whittier is a beacon of light that highlights and nourishes bilingualism. Their dual language model is supportive of students being bilingual and biliterate in both English and Spanish. It is a true gem that has deep community roots created thru their afterschool programs, community garden and genuine caring of students. I feel that my child is supported in this warm environment."

"A small school with a big heart. Very supportive of families. Excellent teachers and a highly committed principal. Dual Language program that has my daughter speaking , reading and writing Spanish and English fluently. Great after school programs with lots of art, music and fitness."
