"Our family moved to bayside from out of state in order to enroll our kid to Cardozo, which enjoyed a great reputation for being strong academically. The freshman year went well. Since his sophomore year thing have been changed drastically: many kids transferred to Cardozo from closed low-performing schools in Jamaica, which cause so many problems to this fine school and motivated students. Cardozo used to be one of the finest high schools in NYC housing so many high-achieving minority students who eventually land themselves in top colleges and universities. Is this the reason that Bloomburg decided to cut its budget for advanced courses, put unmotivated students into classrooms so the school's overall performance got downgraded? Achievements should not be punished, and the students aiming high deserve support rather than discouragement!"

"Others should know that this school offers a variety of classes, organizations and clubs to participate in. I like the fact that it has many clubs, organizations, sports teams that I can join. My school could improve by being a little less crowded."

"My overall impression about Cardozo HS: for both students and parents, it's a tough job navigating through the system to get support. It's much easier to become lost given the complexity the student body in addition to the 24:1 student-teacher ratio. A lot of opportunities out there, but you need to work very diligently to find out, to capture it. You are pretty much on your own, so stay strong, focused, and try your best to thrive. College app process is no difference, you figure it out yourself, don't even bother the college office because people there are always busy. I'm not saying they are unsupportive, in fact, with the huge help from parent volunteers, all required forms are filled and sent out on time, but in terms of information and meaningful advice, don't rely on anyone but yourself."

"I hate this school so much! It's apparently known for its "good" teachers, but the reason why I don't feel like going to school in the morning is because of the fact that I have to deal with my horrible teachers again. Not only are they unreasonable, stubborn, rude, and horrible at teaching, but some of their tests don't even have anything to do with the topic! The school itself is extremely unorganized; with people in the guidance office who will yell at you for simply asking for something, rude and disrespectful students, and much, much more. The bathrooms are extremely unsanitary, especially later in the day. This school looks and feels like a prison. Because of this school, I sometimes don't feel like living anymore."

"My kid is a senior at Cardozo. I would say the experience here is mixed. Academically it's good as my child is naturally curious and motivated to perform well for respect from peers and teachers alike. Extracurricular wise, the school also provides plenty of opportunities engaging students with varied talents. The high school counselor is outstanding in terms of supporting students applying for scholarships and summer programs. The issues lie in student body which is extremely diverse, not only ethnically also socioeconomically. Some groups of student cause concerns on school safety. Cardozo has a separate College Office dedicated to supporting college applications. While understanding the staff members have been chellanged by the load of paperwork for a graduating class with 948 students this year, I still find the office could do a better job communicating with a student and family, and offering more meaningful advice on college app process. On the other hand, classroom teachers are very responsible and inspiring. Most of them serve 5 stars!"
