"Teachers have a strong commitment to student success and to the global education philosophy. Consistency in grading is improving with more standardized expectation recently introduced."

"Academic rigor varies quite a bit from teacher to teacher. I feel some middle school classes could be more challenging. There is a good variety of AP classes for students who want to take that track. Opportunities for students to access teachers to make up work, for more help and questions, etc. could continue to improve (without overloading teachers, hopefully.)"

"This is a very good public school experience for the Denver area, especially for languages and if there is an interest in a global.international studies focus. H.S. students can get a good, challenging course of study if they seek it out. I feel academic expectations could be more rigorous, especially in middle school. The global studies classes that stand in for electives don't leave room in the curriculum for any music of PE and little art/drama. There are extracurricular opportunities for sports that try to stand in for PE but if kids don't have transportation or don't make the team they may not be able to participate. There is no music program (there was an extra-curricular one at one time) and I'd love to see one implemented somehow, even after school. A late-bus program which allowed more students to stay late for clubs, sports, or extra help was discontinued, which is too bad."

"Good school. Very friendly students and teachers. Good environment. Great clubs. Weak science program, but great social studies."

"DCIS is fantastic for kids who are very interested in learning, specifically about global events. This worked well when the school was a magnet school, and students had to submit an application and complete an interview. However, in recent years, the school has started admitting everyone who lives in the area. This has led to decreased motivation among students and lower standardized test scores. The administration at the school is almost completely new and do not work to meet the school's mission statement. There has also been a high turnover in teaching staff, and it seems in recent years that they care less about the success of students. There are still teachers and staff that care very much about the success of students and work actively to make the school a better place, but it is on a downward trend."
