"Teachers are approachable and they can be easily contacted when I have concerns about my son's study. There are some who really inspired my son to do good in class. There are some who are just OK but generally the teachers are highly qualified in their profession."

"My son is doing great in school because he loves the school. He is being challenged in his engineering classes."

"The interaction between teachers and the administration at the school is very bad. Departments do not work together and school spirit is dying. Money fundraised by clubs for clubs end up in athletic accounts, specifically for the football team. Sports are not treated equally, football and basketball are the only two highly supported teams at the school. Policies at the school are changed by the administration without explanation for students, for example all the outside doors were locked for security measures and students were unable to access the main building. I love Riverside as a school and I think comparative to other public schools in Durham that it is excellent. There are many organizations to get involved with but it can take effort to get in them. At the beginning of every year there are new rules and the school is like a police-state with martial law, but every year the restrictions slack off after a few weeks. Races are not treated fairly, racial profiling can be a problem. If a white person and a black person are walking in the hall, the black person gets stopped every time while the white person can walk on through. Discipline is not given evenly. The engineering department is excellent and sets students up for success in college. The arts department is small but the students and teachers in it are dedicated and hard working."

"If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't choose this school because I personally didn't feel as though I was in a motivated environment."
