"Blackhawk School is only one of 21 schools in the State of Illinois who has been honored by the Illinois State Board of Education with the Illinois Spotlight School Award for three consecutive years. You can't get any better than that. Under the leadership of Principal Donna Benton, Blackhawk has been raised to be a school of excellence and the State of Illinois thinks so as well. Mrs. Benton respects her teachers, staff, students and parents and has been nominated for the ISBE Those Who Excel Award. Blackhawk students are achieving when statistically they shouldn't. That comes through great leadership, not by accident. This school is doing wonderful things for it's students, and the teachers and principal are to thank."

"I just want to say that I feel that Blackhawk school is a very good elementary school. The teachers there are awesome with the students. My daughter attended Blackhawk from 2nd to 4th grade. In first grade she was at Empire and I feel that she was better off in Blackhawk. The teachers there are more caring and understanding of the children with emotional problems and work to help them. I want to thank all of the Teachers for everything that they did to help my daughter. Especially Mrs. Tegtmeyer and Ms. Krall. Thank you very much and keep up the good work that you do for all of you students."

"The teachers at this school are outstanding dedicated and often give there own time and money to help students succeed. I feel this is one of the better schools in freeport. The one drawback on the school is it's principal who talks about her qualifications and often starts unrest between parents and teachers. Test scores have improved a great deal in the last 5 yrs however that has more to do with the teachers than the schools pricipal. I myself have realized with older children who have attended Blackhawk that they are better prepared than kids coming from other elementary schools in the district. Kudos for the TEACHERS at Blackhawk, Hang in there."
