"As a student, I feel like elkins could do so much better. Instead of wasting money on IDs and closing off the front foyer area (which makes halls even more congested than they were before), they could be using that money for the students' education. I know they say they're doing it for safety and security, but look at all the other schools that don't have the "precautions" we have. Good teachers are hard to find there, as well as help. Majority of teachers just put power points on a screen and sit at their desk all day. Overall, elkins is not as great as a school as it used to be."

"{former teacher} All I can say is that as long the current administration {BW, JS, SR} is there, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL! Teachers are miserable and the students suffer for it. Athletics are not properly respected by admin and not supported. They are lucky to have the good coaches that they have, who do their best to create good athletic programs with little admin support. I would wait until the admin changes before sending my child."

"Elkins High School suffers not due to educational standard, for many of the teachers are quite adept in their fields, but rather from an administrative short-falling. The administration is far more keen on enforcing things such as the conservative dress code, ID policy, etc, spending funds on ID printing, front office barriers, etc, rather than promoting quality education and spending to improve our massively underfunded science and history departments. I was once taken out of class for two periods, AP Physics C and Honors Computer Science III, both academically distinguished courses, to spend 2 hours in the principals office waiting as they tried to find the proper discipline for my crime... which was the felony offense of not displaying my ID, which I DID have on, on a "school-approved" lanyard. I should probably mention I WAS wearing an Elkins lanyard, just on from the last school year. Such is the condition at Elkins High School."

"This school is awful the students are so mean and the teachers only takecare of a few of them. I want to move away but my parents won't because of the testing scores the only reason they are so high is because of the Academy and the other smart people. Please if you looking to go to this school don't."

"I've been a student at Elkins High School for two years, and I can't tell you a time I've been successfully helped by a staff member. Most are rude, lazy, and/or do not understand their job requirements. The only way you can recieve help is by threatening to contact the school board. The only reason I'd give them a one-star rating is because I do like a few teachers there. FEW actually care, it seems. Although, it is hard to learn with such disruptive students. The principles/staff spend most of their time enforcing ridiculous rules, and are constantly trying to get money out of students. I also do not appreciate the way they make the Special Ed Students clean tables in the cafeteria after breakfast! Elkins lacks variety in courses, and most are "blow off classes". Also, retesting is no longer available in some classes, because, "not every student has transportation." I'd recommend going to another school if at all possible, or taking as many honors classes as you can handle. If you are not that great academically, you're pretty much out of luck at Elkins. Good luck to incoming students, you'll definitely need it!"
