"Outstanding, well-rounded school. Teachers honestly care about the well-being of students and families. School strikes nice balance between rigorous academic environment and extracurricular opportunities. School nurtures children to accept personal responsibility and do their best. Strong administrative leadership. Couldn't be happier."

"Shipley has an excellent academic program, and wonderful parent involvement and extra curricular activiites. They inspire a love of learning in the students. Some of the teachers are a little less than enthusiastic, but overall, the staff is great. There are however, other problems at the school. Racial tension is an ongoing, underlying problem at Shipley that the school administration refuses to deal with adequately. Sad that such a fine school is weakened by racism and socioeconomic classism. Dr. Piltch take your head out of the sand!"

"The parent involvement in the lower school is strong. There has been a lot of turn over in the lower school in the last 10 years. The middle school is much stronger academically than the lower school. I don't know much about the upper school except that it has a good arts department. The head master Steve Piltch is very eloquent when he speaks. Unfortunately, when you need him and no one is looking he will not be there. He is all show."
