"The student review below from Feb 2013 is exactly right. This school has been a disappointment both academically and as a welcoming community. Directly contrary to what we were told before we moved our child to this school, If your family is not from the Lutheran Grade School/LCMS system then you are not welcome. The ultra-conservative Lutheran doctrines overtake all other aspects of the education. Teachers are generally good but the academic standards appear to be no better than the public school system with less diversity. For the $8K annual tuition/fees we are not impressed and will be moving our child back to public school. My child and I both tried to become involved in school activities and were pointedly ignored."

"If, as a parent, you are more concerned about sending your child to an insular institution wherein a "Christian" education is more important than diverse academics, then perhaps this high school is for you. I am disappointed to say that, while a student, I was never taught to engage positions that fall outside of Lutheran doctrine beyond ad hominem attacks and simple dismisal with rescourse to the bible. Students who do not practice Lutheran doctrine or conservative values are directly and indirectly scolded by students and faculty alike. Further, there are no AP courses available, no true science lab, and the only foreign language offered is Spanish. While a student there, there were certainly a handful of exceptional teachers who made it very clear they cared about my success. However, most teachers are overburdened with extra-curricular activities; my geometry teacher regularly cited football (of which he was the coach) as a reason for why we didn't have homework or he wasn't in class. While a Christ-centered education may be important, it is also important to ask at what cost."

"I am a former student of this school, and now just the name makes me sad inside. This school ruined four years of my life."

"Sent my daughter there for 4 years and couldn't have been any happier.. not only for the educational teaching she got, but most importantly for the good Christian Lutheran religion teaching she received. It has greatly increased her faith. By having such a good, teaching staff. That were an inspiration to her."

"I also am a 2008 graduate of MELHS and I do not regret my experience there. It is a sound school that prioritizes the needs of the student first, even when the students may not see it that way. MELHS offers a challenging curriculum that will prepare the students, but at times it appears that certain teachers work with students that care about the subject as opposed to reaching out to the lesser interested to succeed. The smaller environment allows for individuals to participate in activities such as theater and sports, and with many qualified coaches, the Knights always seem to be competitive in just about every sport. For the most part, the social environment is very open and friendly, however, like other small schools, a select few may be snobbish. Overall, this is a very good school with room for growth."
