"While there are different options for classes, i.e. different science options for two-year requirement, many students take the same route (earth science, biology, chem/physics)"

"I would chose this school again simply because the environment got me prepared for a different life. I've grown up in a Mexican community and my first language is Spanish so I've always been very immersed in my culture. Going to this school exposed me to a whole new world because Maria Carrillo is predominantly white and many are very wealthy so it made me want what they have. That want turned into motivation for myself and I pushed myself to where I am today to succeed and it has helped me thus far."

"Maria Carrillo is an academically challenging school, but often it is too much stress for teenagers. Many do not receive enough sleep, resulting in high stress levels. Some students are able to balance sports, extracurriculars, volunteering, work, challenging classes etc. but the majority cannot. This school offers honors and AP classes; however, its academic classes are rigorous enough."

"The school is not very diverse at all, mostly it's upper middle class white people. It's also incredibly cliquey, and almost seems like an episode of Orange is the New Black with the racial separation."

"There were very few teachers that really engaged th students and gave learning a purpose. At times the process of school felt like the they were just trying to get us through almost like a factory. Some didn't really care if the students learned, as long as we did well on our standardized exams so we'd make the school look good. Of course, there were other teachers that were the exception and were always available for help and showed genuine interest in what they were teaching. Those were the teachers that really got me into the material we were learning because they put so much effort into their work and they evidently cared."
