"My son learned more in the first half of Kindergarten at a public school in Frederick, MD than he did throughout the entire first grade at Hickory. Thank goodness he got out before second grade because he was accepted into a magnet school. Despite conferences with the principal, teacher, and academic advisor, Hickory made no efforts to accommodate his intelligence and move him along faster. Instead let him stagnate and had him teach other students who were having trouble with basic skills when he should be learning, not teaching. If your child is having difficulty, would you want him/her being taught by a teacher or a student of the same age? If the latter is fine with you, then by all means Hickory will be a fantastic choice. The first impression my children (4th grade and 1st grade at the time) got when they arrived to Hickory was their shock at how far behind the class was, how much the students cursed, and how much violence they witnessed when compared to their public school in Frederick."

"My oldest son is in 5th grade and has attended Hicory since he started school. I can't begine to say how much I love this school. The teachers are top notch and go above and beyond, which is hard to find these days. The principal is easy to talk to and willing to help. It has been a great experience and I'm thrilled my other children will attend this great school. Recently the school won the blue ribbon award. It speaks to it's high quality."

"My daughter currently attends Hickory Elementary. She's in kindergarten and I couldn't ask for a better school. There are many activities for the children to participate in and they are encouraged to do well in their school work. My daughter attended Pre-K here also, and she's already at a 3rd grade level. I love the smaller school and that there is someone outside to greet the students when the get off the bus. Its a great sense of security for me as a mother of 4 yr old when she was first starting to school and riding a bus because I work FUll-time. The teacher are very involved and are great to interact with."

"Both my children attended Hickory. It is a small school where all the teachers know you and your children. The staff is very dedicated to the children and very helpful with any issues that arise. The PTA is very active with monthly activities for the children. I highly recommend this school to parents."

"My children have attended Hickory for 9 years and have gone through many changes. But they have always adapted well and both have always been on the honor roll and both have been recognized as Hickory Huskie of the month. We like this school very much."
