"My daughter started at Rancho this year as a 6th grader. She was previously attending school in San jose. My daughter despised school last year. I have no problem getting her up and off to school this year. She loves Rancho. She enjoys all her classes and the no pressure atmosphere. I believe our children bring away knowledge of the classroom with teacher / parental involvement and guidance. My daughter is doing very well this year at Rancho and I find her teachers to be very encouraging."

"Several of my daughters teachers are in what they call an alliance, meaning these teachers share the same students. They all know the students strengths and weakness's and work together on one common goal, prepare the student for high School. These teachers prefer to have the student complete the assignments while in class instead of sending home homework as most of us parents don't have a clue what their student has to do, it's just different than the stuff we were taught and know. the teacher would rather have the student bring the work back in the next day so they can be helped by someone who knows the work. I ask my daughter every day to show me her day planner and also what she learned in each class, this works out very well as she then has to work the brain to remember that days work."

"Academic programs are average. Teachers have very low academic expectations from the students, therefore students do very poorly. Extracurricular activities are limited."

"My oldest son is in his second year at RSJ. The Band is exceptional and award-winning. The GATE Program was superb last year but not active this year. Overall our experience has been great. The staff is accessible and helpful. Outside of band, parent participation is low. Parents seem to take a hands off approach at this level. Its too bad because you reap what you sow. HSD is in a financial crisis and the community needs to pass a bond to improve facilities and increase staff and programs."

"Quality of academic programs are average. There are no music classes--other electives have been cut. Art has been reduced to one semester, only leaving Wood shop as the other elective choice. School desperately needs more classes in the Arts. No afterschool tutoring is available for students that need that extra help. Because teachers are so stretched, very few are willing to spend extra time (before or after school) to help students that need it--Administration should recognize that this is only hurting their students. Would be nice if more teachers took advantage of available technology--like websites to post class information, homework, answer parent questions via email, etc."
