"At first, Debakey seems extremely intimidating. In Houston, Debakey has the reputation of being the school that you have to sell your social life to in order to attend. For the most part, this is true. If you want to take the hardest courses and get the best grades here, your time is really the price. The classes are extremely competitive. Someone may try their hardest and still end up in the bottom quartile, but this rings true for all competitive high schools in Houston, like Carnegie. Although, there is quite a divide between students who choose to take on-level (magnet) courses and PAP courses. Overall, if you really like to study and work hard, Debakey is a pretty good fit."

"At this school, you're surrounded by people who are at your level and can relate to you, including students and teacher. DeBakey HS is a school that mainly preps you when you want to follow the path of Medical, meaning everyone wants to be a pharmacist, doctor, surgeon, and etc, and because of that, it is possibly the best school in Texas. If I had a chance, I'd go come back because it's not like any other school that's average. I'm glad I chose this school, and sometimes, I felt like I belonged here in this extraordinary, and wonderful school."

"There are a few teachers who do go above and beyond, but for the most part many teachers are quite lazy."

"In my school, the teachers are always there for you whenever you're struggling, and they're experienced since most of them were doctors, dentist, and surgeons at first. Unlike the ones from other schools, they update your grades in 24 hours or less. What I like the most about them is that they're patient. It doesn't matter whether how far behind you are, they will stop whatever they're doing to make sure each and every student fully understands the concept."

"Although most are knowledgeable, many give unnecessary busy work and produce tests and quizzes that are much harder than it should be."
