"We love this small school. The teachers are fantastic and it offers a lot in terms of classes, arts and extracurriculars for its size."

"Durham is has a small town feel, where many of the schools in this area are definately big city schools. I like the way the staff takes extra time in the mornings & afternoons greeting the parents. HISD has great teachers and this school has recruited the BEST of the best. My 5 year old reads, adds, subtracts is figuring out multiplication. Sure - she could join the vanguard program at a different school - but why? Also they do not teach a test. They do teach test taking skills - it's not the same thing. Yes, the test scores matter (and Durham is Exemplary) but these kids are learning the curriculum not the test. Lastly, the parents are becoming more and more involved. It is great to be a part of the Durham Elementary School Community."

"I agree with the previous post. Durham is a great school. This was the first year for my two children attending Durham. I must say I was impressed with everyone on the staff. What I love most about the school, they don't focus on the test all of the time. Yes they prepare the students but the students are also learning other things. The different activites they have throughout the year is fun for all the family to enjoy. The community is really involved with the school."

"It's a great school, I must say. Not only did my daughter atend last year, but my siblings and I attend Duraham in 1989 all the way to fifth grade. They offer a wide variety of extracurricular activies, such as dance afterschool, arts and crafts. Every holiday is decorated and celebrated by the school and the homeowners of CandleLight. They have an excellent managet school too. The satff is very friendly and helpful. I hope you enjoy the atmosphere and consider making it your child's home school for the years to come!"

"We transferred our boys from K. Smith to Durham on the recommendation of our oldest boy's teacher. Durham is so much better than K. Smith. The smaller school and quieter environment make all of the difference in the world."
