"While there are good teachers at this school, they are the exception. I witnessed multiple teachers yelling at students & belittling/embarrassing them in front of their peers & other parents. There also doesn't seem to be much organization or communication. You have to work to find out what's going on at the school, they won't just openly tell you about anything that's happening."

"Well I know that my girlfriend who is a teacher there goes above and beyond all week long. I'm not talking about 8-5M-F I'm talking about nearly every single day of the week and day of the school year, trying to improve the minds of young children. But naturally there is always a few parents who want more and more of the teacher while themselves pay little to no attention to their own children. Hours are spent after class has long expired! The world is becoming more crouded and desensitized to what really is important. If your a parent then at least make sure your going above and beyond before you demand that your child's teacher is doing enough. Because truly and honestly most of these men and women are drawing the short end of the straw from the get go. They try to educate and to pass on crucial knowledge to the youth of the future. However many of the parents today really do expect for others to do more than they themselves do for their own children. Did you help with homework.? Did you read or make your child read or do they have a tablet or your phone or worse their own phone...lol.....look yourselves in the mirror. Because if your seeing someone else your crazy."

"My youngest started K in 2010 with a brother to follow, 4 years later, and only one great teacher, this school is a constant disappointment. Communication is obsolete between staff, and parents; no extra curricular activities are offered except in third grade, which is garden club, then band and science in fifth. PTO meetings are held Tuesday afternoons when working parents cannot attend. After having spent many hours volunteering at the school, I have finally given up. Communication between staff is just as horrible, and most of the time I am left standing around or taking charge because no one seems to know what they are doing. My youngest was released early by "accident" and the asst. principle did not say a thing, the teachers yelled at me, though it was their mistake. It took me calling the district to complain in order to receive an apology from the principle. I have kept my kids in this school for far too long."

"My son is a second year student of Greenwood Forest, however due to the lack of concern by the principal and the kindergarten teacher I had no choice but to withdraw my son as of today. He started out his experience at greenwood with the best pre-k teacher. As his kindergarten school year started I noticed a change in his behavior.. He loves school but he no longer wanted to go. We had rough mornings of him crying and just saying he hated school.I was thinking it was from him missing his pre k teacher.Months later he started saying how his teacher was mean and yelled all the time. I addressed these issues back in october with the principal who acted like she could careless. I asked her if he could be switched I was told " I have a limit of a teacher staff ratio of 19 to 1, suggested a confrence with the teacher. I had one and all she did was discuss his grades and how she really liked him he was just a curious 6 year old little boy. I felt as we got nowhere. Months later it got worse. When discussing this a month ago all I got from the principal was " We have a month left what would you like to see happen" This school principal has no concern for her students emotional well being."

"Greenwood Forest is a lot to be desired. My child has been going there since kindergarten and he is now in 4th grade. They have the absolute worse communication when it comes to involving parents and the curriculum is very watered down to accommodate the recent influx of non-English speaking students whom have now changed it to a Title 1 school (sigh). They offer one maybe two worksheets for homework and I've yet to see a textbook come home. The teachers are spread across the spectrum when it comes to experience, either they are very new or very old and crabby just waiting on retirement. My child is not challenged at all and has really lost interest in school, which upsets me. He spends his days telling me about what student threw something in the classroom or yelled at the teacher versus what he learned in class. This will definitely be his last year here. Don't be fooled by the "exemplary" sign outside the school. They haven't been exemplary in years!!"
